Hurondale Institute
has Christmas meet
The Christmas meeting of the
Hurondale Women's Institute
was held at Usborne school with
Mrs. Andy Carter in clOt'el.,
Roll call was a verse or chords
of a favourite Christ& carol
and was answered by the
members, who also introduced
the friend they had brought to the
meeting.
The motto, music is a hobby
and a comfort all your life, was
given by Mrs. Carter,
Cheryl Cann danced: a reading
entitled "Bethlehem" was given
by Mrs. Agnes Davis; Sandra
Stewart and Janet Bray favored
with piano duets; 'Mrs. Peter
Connon accompanied by Mrs.
Lloyd Knight sang several
Christmas songs; Mrs. Ed Sillery
gave a reading "Spirit of
Christmas".
Everyone then joined in singing
Christmas carols.
Current events were given by
Mrs. Garnet Hicks and Mrs. Ray.
Cann gave instructions on the
metric system as it applies to the
kitchen.
Mrs. Carl Mills gave a report of
the area convention and
president Mrs. Mills
presided for business.
The Institute planned the
program to be given at Bluewa ter
Rest Home for the birthday
party.

carrot pudding
1 cup grated carrots
1 cup grated potatoes
1 cup ground suet
11/2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp, salt
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped dried apricots,
dates or cherries
12 cup mixed peel
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 2 tsp. cinnamon
12 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking powder
1 scant tsp. soda dissolved in a
little hot water
1/3 cup brandy or fruit juice
Flour to make stiff batter (ap-
prox. 21/2 cups)
12 cup chopped almonds (op-
tional)
Stir everything together in a
large bowl.
Turn intcca well-buttered 4 cup
mould. Cover tightly with lid or
foil, Lower into a large kettle
containing boiling water to come
half-way up sides of mould.
Steam 2-3 hours in covered kettle.
This pudding can be stored in
fridge for several days or frozen
in freezer until needed. Reheat
in kettle of boiling water,
loosen sides andturn out of mould
while still hot onto serving dish.
Sauce
Place 11/2 cups brown sugar and
butter size of an egg in heavy pot
and carmelize (let sugar brown
but do not burn). Add 1 cup
boiling water, 11/2 tbsp. corn
starch dissolved in cold water, 1/2
cup apricot brandy (or orange
juice), 1/2 tsp. nutmeg. Bring to
boil, If too thick add a little more
wa ter.
Hard Sauce
Beat until light 1/2 cup butter,
add V8 tsp. salt, 11/2 cup unsifted
icing sugar; V4 to 1/2 tsp. almond
flavoring and if desired 1 tbsp,
brandy or rum and beat until
light and airy.
New residents
at Huronview
Mrs. Gwyn Whilsmith of
Exeter led the Christian Womens
Club candlelight service on
Sunday evening with vocal solos
by Mrs. Peter Martin.
Four new residents were
welcomed at Monday afternoon's
get together, Mrs. Clark, Benson
Sowerby, Tom Morris and Alf
Buchanan.
Marie Flynn assisted Mary
Taylor, Norman Speir and Jerry
Collins with the music and the
Christian Reformed volunteers
helped with wheel chairs and the
carol sing.
The residents had a very en-
joyable hour of music in Family
Night with Mr. Peter Dekher of
Molesworth as guest soloist and
Mrs. Doreen Danbrook as
pianist. Peter sang many of the
favourite songs such as Danny
Boy, Edelweiss songs from the
Sound of Music and led in the
singing of Christmas Carols. Mrs.
Revell expressed the ap-
preciation of the residents.

Centralia United Church

The C.G,I.T. has been re-
organized in Centralia under the
leadership of Mrs. Susan
Sinkovitch and Mrs. J. Beaton,
Officers in the group are, —
President, Ann Beaton; vice-
president and press reporter,
Nancy Tindall; secretary,
Darlene Knee; and treasurer,
Donna Wilson.
The meetings, held Tuesday
evenings in the schoolroom of the
United Church, are opened with
the C.G.I.T, purpose and a hymn.
This is followed by a worship
service and business. The girls
were happy to welcome a new
member at the meeting last
week: Preparations are under
way for the Vesper service to be
held in the church on Sunday
evening Dec. 16 at 7.30. Everyone
is welcome to attend.
Sunday Service
The service in the UnitedChurch
on Sunday morning opened with
Carol singing led by Mrs.
Russelll Wilson with Mrs. Ken-
neth Hodgins playing the organ;
Mrs. Ray Mills, the piano; Mr,
Cecil Skinner, the violin and
Harvey Smith the guitar.
"And the Shepherds returned
home another way" was the
subject chosen by Rev. Beaton
for his sermon.
Entertain seniors
The Spirit of Christmas
prevailed in the Community
Centre on Monday when the
U.C.W. entertained the Senior
Citizens to a turkey dinner with
all the trimmings.
Following the dinner there was
music with. Mrs. Frank King at
the piano; Cecil Skinner, playing
the violin and Nelson Squire, the
harmonica. Crokinole and cards
completed the afternoon's en-
joyment.
Euchre party
Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Mac-
donald and Mr. & Mrs. Jack
Dickins convened the Euchre
party in the Community Centre,
Monday night with a good crowd
in attendance.
Prize winners were, Ladies
high Mrs. Heber Davis; lone
hands, Mrs. Joe Carter; low,
Mrs. Ray Shoebottom, Men's
high, Otto Darling; lone hands,
Harry Carroll; low, Chas
Rollings.
Mr. & Mrs. Ray Shoebottom,
and Mr. & Mrs. Robt Blair will be
in charge of the first party in the
New Year on January 7.
