At the Tuckersmith council
meeting Tuesday, Vince Fowlie
of Vanastra informed his fellow
council members that the leak in
the Vanstra water system was
found to be in the fire hydrants.
"Every hydrant was leaking,"
he said.
Excessive water useage at
Vanastra had been a problem
since council took over the
system from the owner, Vanastra
Developments.
The board had hoped to
establish plumbing inspection in
Huron by May 1, 1974 with two
inspectors, qualified to do Public
Health Inspection and Plumbing
Inspection, hired to handle the
new department. The office had
been proposed for Clinton's
Health Unit Branch Office.
Dr. Frank Mills, Medical
Officer of Health for Huron, said
the proposed bylaw was simply a
rewrite of the 1961 bylaw with the
fee structure updated in an at-
tempt to make plumbing in-
spections self-supporting.
In turning down the bylaw,
Reeve Bill Elston said the county
really does want plumbing in-
spection but was unhappy with
the bylaw as presented.
"I hope the doctor isn't too
soured on this," said Elston. He
charged the bylaw as presented
was "too vague" and urged that
local councils be given an op-
portunity to peruse the bylaw
before it is passed at the county
level.
The entire matter was referred
back to the committee for
"discussions",
Dr. Mills then asked that the
1961 bylaw be rescinded and that
plumbing inspection be stricken
from the board of health control.
"Why don't we just drop it and
be done with it," said Dr. Mills.
"Obviously the county just don't
want this kind of control,"
However, council did not
rescind the bylaw.
"If the doctor isn't soured, I
sure am" said Deputy-reeve Stan
Profit, Goderich. "It is in-
conceivable that what took place
today did take place,"
Following the meeting, Dr.
Mills said it will be up to the
board of Health if and when the
proposed plumbing bylaw will be
presented again. He said that in
his opinion, the whole matter
should be "shelved" until later.
He noted the proposed bylaw had
been carefully studied and
prepared and he doubted that
much change could be made in it.
Fowlie reported that he un-
derstands seven of the hydrants
connot be serviced and must be
replaced because of valve
problems.
Ontario Water Resources will
be asked to send a representative
to meet with council to discuss
the water and sewage systems.
A request for building permit
for an addition to his house and
garage was approved for Howard
Allen of Brucefield.
Council approved the new fire
agreement establishing the
Clinton fire area which will
provide fire protection to the
town of Clinton and certain areas
in the Surrounding townships of
Goderich, Stanley, Hullett and
Tuckersmith.
Passed for payment were
accounts totalling $220,859.58;
which includes tax levies to the
County of Huron of $107,401.00
Huron County Board of
Education $80,187.30 and Huron-
Perth County Separate School
Board $5,320.41.
Council approved a resolution
to the boards of education that
school rates continue to be paid
twice yearly on June 30 and Sept.
15.
G.V. Kleinfeldt and Associates
Ltd on behalf of Alliance Building
Corporation will be sent a list of
vacant lots suitable for building
houses at Vanastra.
Huron Acoustic Ltd. of
Vanastra was given a building
permit to build a new factory to
replace the one heavily damaged
by fire Oct. 30.

The Lucan atoms lost two
games over the weekend by
identical scores of 5-2. Saturday
in Lucan the home team took an
early lead on a goal by Ferlin
Sovereign. Byron then scored
back to take the lead away from
Lucan, putting the game out of
reach with several tallies. Paul
Wraith scored the other Lucan
goal, late in the game.
The atoms travelled to Belmont
Sunday to take on their arch
rivals and came home suffering a
5-2 loss. Jamie Shipley and Paul
Wraith managed to score for
Lucan.
The Pee Wees also travelled to
Belmont losing a 7-2 verdict. Ron
Glenn and Andrew Spruyt scored
for Lucan.
The Lucan bantams lost to
Belmont 4-1 on Friday night but
managed to defeat Exeter by a
score of 7-2 over the weekend,
Rick Freeman proved to be the
spoiler in Fridays game, scoring
the loan Lucan goal and at the
same time ruining the Belmont
goalie's bid for a shutout.
However, against Exeter,
Lucan showed just how its done,
defeating the home team 7-2.
Rick Freeman was the scoring
star of the game netting a hat
trick while Rick Appleman, Kyle
Pedersen, Albert Thompson
and Ron Dykeman added the
single markers.
Friday night in Belmont the
Lucan midgets could only
manage a tie in spite of leading
Belmont for most of the game.
With Lucan holding a 4-3 ad-
vantage Belmont struck to tie the
score giving each team a single
point. Brad Taylor, "Jock"
Holland, Jim Benn and Gord,
Moon were the Lucan marksmen.
Lucan lost to Ilderton 3-2 in
what proved to be an exciting
game Monday night. Ilderton
drew first blood only to have Jim
Benn tie the score. Again Ilderton
took the lead but Pat 'Holland
scored on a breakaway. Ilder-
ton's Greg Adlington then scored
what proved to be the winner.

the Alvins ton crew. Playing in
Alvinston the Irish played a
surprising lack-lustre game
losing 11-5. Randy Mann led the
Lucan attack netting three goals
while Ron Hodgins and Cecil.
Nickles added the single goals.
Playing on home ice, Saturday
afternoon helped to change things
around as Lucan skated to a 7-4
victory. Randy Mann again put
the punch in Lucan's attack
scoring his second consecutive 3
goal performance. Brian Noyes,
Ron Hodgins , Scott Anderson
and new coiner Chris Mourtzen
finished off the Lucan scoring.
First year midget Terry Hayter
turned in a fine performance in
the Lucan net stopping several
hard shots.

District curling
won by Lucan
The Royal Canadian district
curling championship staged at
the Ilder ton arena Saturday was
won by a rink representing Lucan

members were Art Bates, John
Moon and Bob Anderson.
possible four points over the
week. Lucan now has 10 points,
two more than Tavistock setting
the stage for Wednesday's en-
counter between these 2 teams.
In Wednesday's game, before
the largest crowd the home team
has attracted, Lucan showed it
can come from behind by tieing
Strathroy 6-6.
Strathroy scored early in the
game and before Lucan could
become untangled the Irish were
behind 4-0. Lucan then began the
comeback, thanks to Mike
McIntyre who scored two quick
goals to put the Irish within 2
goals of Strathroy at the end of
the first.
The team traded second period
goals with McIntyre collecting
his third of the night and
Strathroy headed into the final
frame holding a 5-3 advantage.
Ron Funston scored to narrow
the margin and Gary Isaac tied
the score at five apiece,
Strathroy th en scored again
to take the lead, but Craig Cor-
man scored knotting the game
with about four minutes
remaining. Despite numerous
chances for both teams, the game
ended in a tie.
Eugene Glavin was one of the
main reasons why Lucan was
able to come back, stopping
several close in shots. His play
sometimes bordered on the
impossible and he would have to
be voted one of the three stars of
the game.
Sunday night in Lambeth, the
Flyers received a good lesson in
the art of goal scoring as Lucan
blasted 15 shots by the two
Lambeth net minders. The game
was never close as the Irish
opened up a 4-0 lead and never
looked back.
The Lucan attack was well-
balanced with nine players
m anaging goals. Mike McIntyre
again netted three for the win-
ners with Craig Corman, Ed
Robb, Brad England and Gary
Hern each adding two apiece.
Single goals went to Brian
McNeil, Ed, Legg, Ron Funston
and Mike Wraith, Final score was
Lucan 15, Lambeth 5.
