South Huron split a double
header Tuesday -, when they
hosted Listowel in the fifth game
fn regular Huron-Perth Con-
ference play.
The seniors pounced on
Listowel from the beginning and
.kept a good watch on them for the
whole game. At the end of the
first quarter, the score was in a
deadlock position 7-7.
South Huron came back in the
second quarter to take a Mil-
manding lead until the clock
buzzed the end of the game and
the score read 36-33. South Huron
showed good shooting, and
great team effort was put forth
by all, Scoring went to Sue Luther
sinking a total of 18, Deb Wooden
chalking up 12, Lori Ayotte
basketing six, and Val Sweet was
good for a two point shot.
The juniors didn't fare quite as
well losing 37-18, Off to a bad
start South Huron just couldn't
seem to catch the fast moving
Listowel team, It was a good try
though and after some more
shooting practice they should do
a bit better.
Both games had a good amount
of fans and the cheerleaders were
out there giving their best.
Sotith Huron hosted another
double header to Seaforth
Thursday and as before they
split, juniors losing and seniors
winning,
The juniors started off the
game with a bouncing start and
for a while it looked like anyone
could have won. Eventually,
though, they lost 34-19. It was a
good game and South Huron put
forth a lot of effort,
Scorers were Gayle Ecker
dumping seven points Gail Fuller
shooting four, Tammy Baker,
Marie Jarvis, Janet Pryde, and
Beth Keys each scoring two in
their favor.
The seniors started off on the
right side and kept a good lead up
winning 39-25 in a hard fought
battle packed with excitement.
The girls showed good shooting
and passing again and managed
to outplay Seaforth to the bitter
end. Succeeding in scoring were
Sue Luther with 22 pointers. Deb
Wooden popping up with 12, and
Ann Muller and Val Sweet each
threw up two a piece,
Once again South Huron fans
were high in attendance and the
games were all good-win or lose.
The season wraps up Tuesday
with both teams travelling to
Goderich. Today we meet Clinton
at two o'clock in Clinton.
Jets start senior season
at home against Bothwell
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets swing
into action Friday night in the
first game of the regular season
in the new Ontario Hockey
Association Continental Senior
league.
The Jets will meet the Bothwell
Barons at the Ilderton arena in an
8.30 p.m. start.
In exhibition contests the Jets
broke even. They dropped two
games to the Stratford Perths
and came up with double vic-
tories this week over the
Woodstock Royals. The Jets
scored a 7-4 win over the Royals
in Ilderton Friday night and eked
out a 4-3 decision in Woodstock,
Sunday night.
The league was reduced to nine
teams this week when the
Ingersoll Marlands withdrew due
to the lack of senior calibre
players.
The Durham Huskies also
threatened to drop out of the
league. The Huskies want to use
four former Senior "A" players

Nairn leads
Playing coach Jack Nairn led
the Jets to their Sunday night win
in Woodstock. Nairn scored the
only two goals of the third period
to overcome an earlier 3-2 Royals
margin.
Wayne Longthorne and former
Jet Bill Dunnell scored for
Woodstock in the first period
while Pete Loveless tallied for
the Jets on a pass from Barry
Baynham.
At the halfway mark of the
second session, Tom Murphy put
the Royals two goals in front.
Dick Doughty narrowed the L-I
deficit to a single goal with less
than three minutes to go on a play
started by veteran Doug
Galloway.
Galloway picked up the puck at
centre ice and moved right in on
goal after deking a Woodstock
defenceman. His shot was .
stopped but Doughty picked up
the rebound and hit the net.

Late Scoring
Most of the goals in Lucan's
Wednesday 6-4 win over the
Hawks came in the third period,
The Irish took a 2-0 lead after
the first 20 minutes of play and.
scored the only marker of the
second session,
The Hawks were able to out-
score the Lucan six in the final
period by a 4-3 count but they
were unable to overcome the
early lead.
In the first period Mike Wraith
and Craig Corman were the
marksmen for Lucan. Assists
were picked up by Dixon and
McIntyre,
It was McIntyre counting on a
pass from Corman to give the
Irish a commanding 3-0 lead in
the middle frame while the
Hawks were playing one man
short.
A successful three way passing
combination put the Hawks on
the scoreboard for the first time
at 1.03 of the third. Randy
Gilfillan finished off a neat effort
with linemates Gerald Weido and
Harry Smits.
It took the Irish boys only 41
seconds to get that goal back.
Charles Frank pulled the trigger
on a pass from Gary Herr.
The next two goals for each
club again came close to each
other. At 9.06 McIntyre notched
his second goal of the night for

Doughty leads
In Friday's 7-4 win over
Woodstock, Dick Doughty led the
Jets scoring attack with a three
goal performance,
The Jets opened the scoring
and although the Royals tied the
score on several occasions they
were never actually behind,
Doughty started the Jets
counting at 4.08 on a three way
effort with Walt Parkinson and
Terry Bourne. Ray Tilley tied the
score for the Royals before
Jacques Cousineau fired a suc-
cessful shot for the Jets
unassisted.
Former Haliburton Huskie
Craig Stamp scored the second
Woodstock goal of the game and
Pete Loveless converted a Tom
Hodgins pass to put the Jets up 3-
2 late in the period.
The Jets moved into a com-
manding lead in the second
period as Doughty completed his
hat trick effort. The other goal
came from the stick of Jack
Nairn. Assists on the three goals
went to Terry Bourne, Jamie
Robb, Steve English, Bill Bourne
and Pete Loveless. The lone
Royal scorer was Wayne
Longthorne.
In the third period, Pete
Loveless was the Jets marksman
while Bill Birch scored for
WoodstOck.
Dan Lapella, formerly of the
Sudbury Wolves was in goal for
the L-I club and turned in an
outstanding performance. The
Jets were called for 20 of the 34
infractions chalked up by referee

Results: a two day stay in
hospital with X-ray, my face is
very discolored, broken glasses

Hoping for the safety of your

What do you wear to drive?
For women short skirts are
best; maxis, bell-bottoms and
palazzo pants can cause ac-
cidents if they get caught on
floor pedals.
Faulty plugs can waste at
much as 10 percent of the gas
you buy. Keep spark plugs
clean and properly gapped.
If windshield wiper blades
smudge or streak, it may be
the weather, not the wear. In
areas where atmospheric
ozone is high, such as Califor-
nia and Florida, wiper blades
ton lose their efficiency in
three months without even be-
