Juveniles complete upset
The Exeter juveniles corn-
pleted their upset over Port Elgin
by whipping the lakeshore boys
by a norrow 9-B count Sunday
afternoon,
The win on the Port Elgin
diamond gave the locals the best-
of-three series in two straight
games and earned them the right
to play Goderich in the WOAA
final.
That series gets underway in
Exeter tonight (Thursday) at
6:15.
Sunday's contest was a close
struggle throughout as Exeter
A pregnant woman should
wear a seat belt, or better yet
a shoulder harness, says the
American Medical Association.
Studies show that most belt in-
juries are slight, and the risk to
the fetus is less with a seat belt.
Older drivers who compensate
for their changing physical
abilities are less likely to have
auto accidents than younger
people,
A chirp-chirp noise up front is
probably a dry or worn fan
belt,
Parking lights are never
enough for driving, If you need
lights at all, use the regular
beams, say experts.
More than half of all auto ac-
cidents are caused by
"habitual offenders", Drunken
drivers make up the largest
single group. States are get-
ting tougher on these drivers
— sending them to jail, pulling
licenses, to keep them off the
roads.
Our expert mechanics check out every
car we sell. We count on them; you
can, too.

Drive in soon'
forced tut the tying run at home
in the eighth inning and then
finished the inning by leaving the
losers with three men on base.
Exeter opened the scoring in
the second frame when Doug
Fairbairn and Joe Darling cir-
cled the route without the aid of a
hit.
Port Elgin knotted the count in
their half only to. have Paul
McKnight make it 3-2 in the third
after leading off with a double
and coming in on Darling's
single.
Port Elgin scored three times
in the fourth, but Exeter came
back with three more in each of
the sixth and seventh innings to
cap the margin.
The key blow in the sixth was
provided by Dave Parsons who
slammed a triple with the bases
loaded,
A double by Perry Stover and
singles by Rick Regier and Rob
Dickey provided the power for
the three runs in the seventh.
Port Elgin scored three times
in the seventh, but Paul
McKnight came on in relief of
Perry Stover to leave Port Elgin
one run behind.
After his narrow escape in the
eighth inning, McKnight put the
home crew down in order in the
ninth, aided by a spectacular
catch by Darling that resulted in
a double-play.
Besides his clutch relief pit-
ching, McKnight paced the hit-
ting attack with a pair of doubles,
while Dickey and Darling had a
pair of singles.
Dave Parsons lashed out a
triple and singles came off the
bats of Stover, Fairbairn and
Regier.
Stover recorded four strike-
outs in his six and one-third in-
nings, while McKnight picked up
one, Nine Exeter batters were
sent down via the strike-out
route,
Centennials post
narrow victory
The Exeter Centennials soccer
club posted another victory this
week when they edged Taxandria
B by a 2-1 margin, Sunday.
Mike Ball scored both tallies
for the winners,
There will he no game for the
club this week and their next
match will be at home against
Ailsa Craig on August 26 at 6:30
p.m.
In other soccer action, the
Exeter Mosquitoes dropped a 3-0
contest to Clinton. The locals
played the game three men short.
The Exeter Knights recorded a
convincing 5-0 win over the
Exeter "A" club. Richard Helm
paced the attack with three goals
while Mike Taylor and M.
Brunzlow scored one each,
Doug Lovell picked up singles
each.
Sunday's game was a complete
disaster for Exeter 'as the
Listowel squad scored six times
in the first inning and added
seven more in the sixth and four
in the eighth to record the lop-
sided 17-3 margin.
Exeter hurlers gave up 13
walks, hit two batsmen and their
mates committed two errors,
while Listowel only connected for
four hits in the contest.
Actually Exeter outhit the
winners with a total of seven.
The deciding game in Listowel
Monday was a nip and tuck affair
from the outset and Exeter
scored twice in the final frame
and had a man on third when the
final out was made with Listowel
leading 5-4.
Paul Shapton paced the locals
with three hits, while Ken Pinder,
Jim Gregus and Paul Brooks had
a pair each.
Paul Brooks took the loss,
although he gave up only five
hits, However, seven walks and a
couple of costly errors by his
mates proved to be the dif-
ference.

It took an extra inning to break
the tie in a rousing ball game at
the park on Tuesday night bet-
ween Hibbert South and Blan-
shard Bantam Boys. Maurice
Ruston went all the way on the
mound for Hibbert with Ron
Elliott behind the plate. Helped
by two home runs by Brad
Marsden, and one by Dwight
Kinsman, Hibbert South came
out on the top of a 9-8 score.
Monday a large number of
Cromarty fans travelled to
Kirkton to see the return Bantam
game. In spite of Brad Marsden's
grand slam homer, Hibbert South
came out in the short end of an 11-
10 score. The third game of the
series will be played in Kirkton.
In the early game Tuesday,
Munro Senior girls earned a well-
deserved win over Cromarty.
