By MRS. J. TEMPLEMAN STAFFA 4-H members, leaders and mothers were guests of the Staffa Womens Institute at their meeting held in the township hall on Wednesday evening June 27. There were 19 members and 35 visitors present, Mrs. Ed Chappel presided and opened the meeting with the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect, Mrs. Charles Douglas presented a motto on the 4-H pledge and gave the 10 com- mandments on charm. Roll Call was answered by naming a song with "Home" or "Country" in it. Mrs. Carter Kerslake gave a demonstration on "block prin- ting" which proved most in- teresting for the 4-H girls and their leaders as that is the course the girls will be taking inthefall. Staffa No. 3 4-H girls modeled their outfits made in "Sewing with knits" with Marilyn Miller introducing the girls. Staffa No. 1 girls modeled their outfits for "Springtime in the park" with Joanne Ross introducing the girls, Lorraine Laing introduced Staffa No. 2 as they modeled and also commented on the exhibit "Knacks with necklines" Which they had set up. The president, Mrs. John Miller presided for the business. Mrs. Carter Kerslake, Mrs. Frank Hamilton and Mrs. Ger- trude Taylor are a committee to plan a bus trip for July, A 70th anniversary party is planned for August. Hostesses were Mrs. Ed Chappel, Mrs. Penelope Fell and Mrs. George Vivian. Personals Mrs. Bruce Eaton and family motored to Montreal on the weekend meeting Bruce, who has spent the last four months in India. Rain necessitated that it be conducted indoors rather than in the Community Park. A program of sports was directed by Harry Schroeder, Rev. Holsworth, London visited on Sunday with the Fred Dobbs Jr. at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Fred Dobbs Sr. in Exeter. Mrs. Howard MacDonald, Lucan gave her home Wednesday for a Stanley Brush demon- stration. The proceeds from the party were donated to the A.C.W. of St. Patrick's church, Saint- sbury. There were 12 ladies present. Mr. & Mrs, Harry Carroll, Mr. & Mrs. Larry Greenlee and Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis attended Exeter Centennial church service at Trivitt Memorial church Sunday. The Greenlees were guests with Rev. & Mrs. G. Anderson and the Davis' were guests with Mrs. R. Dickins. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Tindall, St. Jacobs were Sunday guests with their nephew, Mr. & Mrs. Bob Tindall and family. Jeffrey Young, Lucan spent the holiday weekend with his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis. formerly of Clandeboye spent a few days visiting friends and acquaintances in the village. Most of her time was spent with Isabel Simpson. Everyone enjoyed the bus trip last Friday to Hamilton. Mr. & Mrs. Hans Rosch were welcomed home with screams of joy and six happy faces Thursday when they returned from a three- week stay in Europe, they report excellent weather and a happy time. Janis Kestle spent several days with Nancy and Nathan Skinner at the Green Haven Park last week. Herb Hardwick, Woodbridge, was a weekend guest of Mr, & Mrs. Alf Smith. Randy Witherspoon, recipient of an Albert Gaiser award, was valedictorian of the grade 8 graduating class at Stephen Central Public School. Mrs. Lorne Finkbeiner was dismissed from hospital Sunday . She is spending some time at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ross Haugh. Rev. Armin Schlenker and Mary Ellen had a good view of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh at Victoria Park Thursday. Bob Liberty, Toronto has been staying at Hillside Cabins again because he likes to go roller skating in Grand Bend. Mr, & Mrs. Clarence Green went to Teeswater Tuesday to attend the funeral of Everett Whitehead. At the Anglican Church, the Rev. W. Mills dedicated the new English Bible with Apocrypha in memory of Jack Hargreaves by his wife Jessie Hargreaves. Mrs. Hargreaves lives in London and Oakwood, Grand Bend. The first open air service was held at the United Church lawn in pleasant weather with a good attendance of 125. Rev, H. G. Dobson was the speaker and the soloist was Mrs, Gary Brenner. Next Sunday will be a mixed choir and Rev, Dobson to give the sermon. Mr. & Mrs. C. Pullens of the Pinedale Motel has 17 M,P.'s along with Lorne Henderson to stay at their motel after a supper at the home of Lorne Henderson. By MRS. Wednesday evening 48 friends, relatives and neighbors met at the United Church to shower many useful gifts on Irene Deelstra,Lucan who is soon to be Mrs, Gary Donaldson. Marilyn Groenewegan en- tertained with three appropriate selections on the accordion. Elsie Lewis conducted two contests and Kathy Worthington and Elaine Parker sang several songs accompanied by Cathy on her eleven string guitar. Nancy Taylor was mistress of ceremonies. Lucille Blake and Audrey Scott were chief cooks and bottle washers and Eleanor Kestle welcomed the guest of honor. Others attended from Zion, Willowdale, and London, Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader were completely taken by surprise when they were presented a beautiful gift to mark their coming anniversary and Irvin's birthday later this summer. Danny Weigand, small son of Mr. & Mrs. Jim Weigand, is making favorable progress in South Huron hospital, Exeter, where he is confined with 100 stitches in his head after being attacked by a dog. Mr. & Mrs. LeRoy Gowanlock and family spent the weekend with LeRoy's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Gowanlock, Chesley Lake Farm. Their family now includes two adopted daughters, Angela, 6 and Rosanne 5. Thursday they will travel to London to meet Mrs. Gowanlock's parents, Mr, & Mrs. E.B. Martin. Jacques Cartier used eastern white cedar to treat scurvy among his crew.
