Estimations of the crowd that
gathered for Exeter's centennial
opening ceremonies varied from
12 to 15,000. But whatever the
final figure a lot of people turned
out to welcome Exeter's 100th
birthday.
The Centennial office on Main
Street was a busy place all
weekend as 294 guests signed in
for_the icelebrations:-;:, .

Canada; British Columbia,
Alberta, Saskatchewan,
Manitoba, Quebec, Nova Scotia
and of course from every corner
in Ontario.
There were also visitors from
Holland, Nassau, Florida,
California, Virginia, North
Carolina, Minnesota, Michigan
and Iowa.
Ted Smith from Nassau en-
joyed himself so much he is
trying to make plans for a return
visit.
Mr, & Mrs. Bill Chambers from
Manitoba have decided to retire
here. They lived in Exeter for

fire chief for ten years, taking
over from John Norry.
At the ceremonies at the
Community Park after the
parade, prizes were given for the
visitor from the farthest away.
Mr. Mol, the father of Gabby Mol
of Exeter won this honor. He had
travelled all the way from
Holland.
The biggest family went to a
Mrs. Winters who had six
children there. Eighty-three year
old Mrs. Richards was the oldest
woman present.
Bert Rivers had the double
distinction of being the oldest
man present and the oldest living
reeve of Exeter. He is 87.
