Survey shows
cable support
A total of 124 Hensall residents
have indicated they would like to
have cable TV service. In ad-
dition, another 41 said they would
probably require two outlets or
more in their homes,
Those were among statistics
compiled by the Hensall Planning
Committee in their effort to have
cable TV brought to Hensall.
They were advised that if
enough interest could be
guaranteed, a cable TV firm
would consider bringing a line
into Hensall.
Thirty-five residents replied
they were not interested, while
another 124 failed to return the
forms mailed to them by the
committee.
The information will now be
turned over to the cable TV firm
for their consideration,

Shoe repair businessman
ends work after 40 years
THE PIED PIPER LEADS THEM — During one of the numbers in the recent concert presented by the Hensell
public school, the Piped Piper led his followers. Shown above are Bruce Thompson, Bryan Baker, David

The door of a business closed
recently when Andy Orr retired
from the shoemaking trade, He
also repaired harness but with
the machine age taking over, the
harness repairing dwindled. He
learned the shoe repair 40 years
ago at Lucknow from his brother
Melvin, and started up in
business for himself three years
later in Ailsa Craig where he
operated a shoe repair and
harness shop until 1941.
He then came to Hensall and
was situated in the Petty
building, now known as the
Legion hall, for two years. Then
he purchased the building where
he presently resides from Dr.
Ivan Smillie. He also repaired
suitcases, binder canvas,

purses, etc. or anything that his
customers brought to him. If it
was fixable, he would fix it,
He loved his work and put his
heart and soul into it. The
children around town used to be
amazed how he could hold tacks
in his mouth ready to be ham-
mered into the soles of shoes,
When he first came to Hensall,
he used to have to work late many
nights to keep the work caught
up. In the winter when the hockey
season was on Andy was kept
busy sharpening skates. Many a
time it would be after hours, but
if there were skates to sharpen,
he was sure to oblige, Being a
hockey player in his younger
days, he knew it was very im-
portant to have a good sharp edge
on those skates.
Although he has retired, he will
