Now that the dust has cleared
following a busy weekend around
good old Branch 540, we can tell
you of the result. Saturday, as
you will recall, Branch 540 played
host to the Zone A-5 Dart tour-
nament and although we didn't
win any trophies we put up a good
fight and our competitors knew
that we were around.
The final outcome being that
our Comrades of Branch 510
Delaware winning the doubles,
while the Comrades of Branch
251, Mount Brydges took teams
event. We wish these Comrades
the very best in darts as they
compete in the District A. finals
to be held at the Legion Hall in
Corunna next month.
On Sunday Branch 540 hosted
the Zone A-5 meeting with 10o%
representation from the 10
branches of the Zone in at-
tendance. We were honored in-
deed 'to have District A Com-
mander, Comrade George
Brown, Chatham and Zone A-6,

Reid, London in attendance.
Following the usual business
sessions District Commander
Brown assisted by Zone A-6
Commander Reid installed Zone
A-5 Commander Bill Smith,
Lucan and his Deputy Zone A-5
Commander Art Grosye'nor,
Melbourne to their second' fi,vo
year term in office.
Branch 540 wish both these
dedicated legion officers a most
successful term in office. During
the meeting Zone Sports Officer
Cliff Cunningham took the op-
portunity to present the Ilderton
Comrades with the Zone trophy
emblematic of supremacy in the
fine art of euchre—ahem.
And as you may have guessed
following the proceedings our
faithful ladies of the Auxiliary
served a smorgasbord lunch,
which was enjoyed immensely by
all. Thanks Ladies for once again
adding to the success of our
meeting.
A date we would like you to
keep in mind is April 28 and 29th
for this is when the Comrades
meet at the Royal Canadian
Legion in Chatham, for the
District A convention, Again
election's will be the order of the
day for it will be at this meeting

Commander and a Deputy
District Commander, Here we
will also present resolutions for
approval to be presented on the
floor of the Provincial convention
which will convene in my old
home town Sault Ste Marie,May
20 through to the 23rd.
If you have the time Comrades
these are great meetings to at-
tend as they will give you an
insight of the Legion at work at a
higher level.
Branch 540's Pee Wee hockey
team have won the Shamrock
league 'C' Trophy. From reports
received they first had to win
over Huron Park, they then went
on to win over Dorchester at a
game played in Lucan. At the 1.49
minute mark of the second
overtime period Brian Lewis
scored the winning goal. The
other Lucan sharp shooters were
Kevin Gilmour with a pair and
Martin Clark with a loner.
It has been my pleasure to
report other wins by the Lucan
Legion sponsored hockey teams
but this is the first occasion I
have had the privilege to advise
the three teams sponsored by
Branch 540- pee wee, bantam and
midget have won their division in
the Shamrock League. The
Comrades of Branch 540 feel a
great deal of credit is in the offing
for the coaches and managers of
these teams that they have come
up with such outstanding records.
Now hear this, Now hear this

Holy Trinity Anglican
On Thursday the afternoon
branch of the Anglican Church
Women hosted a meeting for all
the Women of the parish. Mrs. J.
Murdy was the chairwoman Mrs,
R.A. Carson introduced the
speaker Mrs. K,B. Keefe of
London. Mrs. Keefe traced the
development of the Anglican
Church Women from the W.A.
She said the women of the church
asked for the change because
they wanted to involve more
women in the cisorch.
The A.C.W. is a much looser
association of the women of the
church. It takes in Sunday School
teachers, Chancel Guild and
Guilds. Its task is to channel the
work of the church women
Eventually it is expected that the
Church won't have divisions of
men's and women's work, Mrs.
Keefe showed slides describing
the A.C.W.
At the meeting it was an-
nounced that the Lions Club had
approached the women to see if
they would like to have a booth at
the Lucan Trade Fair in August.
On Sunday a special Palm
Sunday Service of hymns and
lessons was held. There were two
four-foot Palm branches
displayed that Mr, Carson had
brought home from Florida. The
nine lessons were read by grade 7
and 8 girls; Wendy Kraut, Lynn
Stanley, Joanne Hodgins, Cheryl
Davis, Ruth Ann Atkinson,
Cheryl Hardy, Barbara Shea, and
Sandra Avery. Rev. Carson
preached on the Palm Sunday
theme.
St. James' Church
On Sunday at St. James'
Church the girls in the Junior
Choir sang "Tell me the stories of
Jesus'. Michelle Cunningham
sang one verse as a solo and Joan
Cunningham presided at the
organ. The girls were directed by
Mrs. A. Hill.
Rev. R. Carson preached on
'Love is King'. He said that on
Palm Sunday, Jesus and His
disciples weren't sitting around
philosophizing about the
situation, Jesus was leading the
tr uimp ha n t procession in to
Jerusalem riding on the colt. This
was a parade that appeared
ludicrous to the Roman army but
to the .Jews it was the fulfillment
of prophecy.
Mr. Carson said that we today
have a tendency to think that
majesty is power instead of
realizing that Jesus was meek
and that He said "the meek shall
inherit the earth." We need to
confess our sin of pride and
arrogance and pray for
forgiveness.
