A former British Columbia
resident, Alexander Stewart'
McBeth, who spent the last five
weeks in custody, was sentenced
to a total of six months in jail by
Judge Glenn Hays in Exeter
court, Tuesday.
McBeth had previously pleaded
guilty to charges of theft,
possession of stolen property and
break, enter and theft.
He was charged in connection
with thefts from Calcott's Variety
in Huron Park, Zip Car Wash in
Exeter, Hensall Motors and
possession of stolen oil from
Seldon's Fuels.
A pre-sentence report had been
ordered by Judge Hays.
A Crediton man, Kenneth
Richard Kadey, was fined $50 or
five days in jail after pleading
guilty to a charge of possessing a
restricted drug.
He was charged on January 20
in Exeter after a car in which he
was riding was stopped by Con-
stable Alex Balazs. A cigarette
was found in the wallet of the
accused and examination
revealed it contained marijuana.
Randall William Dayman,
Kippen, was fined $150 on a
charge of impaired driving and
an additional $50 for having
liquor in a place other than a
residence.
The Judge was told the accused
is required to drive several miles
to work. Judge Hays levied a
restricted three month licence
suspension, prohibiting Dayman
from driving other than between
the hours of 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. and
4:30 to 5:00 p.m,
Sentence was delayed on a
mischief charge against Gerard
Ducharme, Zurich. He pleaded
guilty to smashing a window at
the Dominion Hotel in Zurich on
February 18.

the case over pending restitution
being made for the damage.

was fined $50 on a charge of
creating a disturbance at the
Dufferin Hotel in Centralia and
another $20 for failing to stop at a
stop sign in Exeter,
Horrell pleaded not guilty to
the latter charge,stating that his
wife was driving the car at the
time. The car had been parked
after the incident and police
stopped the couple while walking
a short distance away.
Crown Attorney W. G.
Cochrane argued the arresting
officer was most likely correct in
his identification because of
general appearance.

fines were levied by Judge Hays
and Justice of the Peace Douglas

Quiet week

Officers of the Ontario
Provincial Police detachment at
the Pinery Park enjoyed a quiet
week. No break-ins or motor
vehicle accidents were reported.

secure. One was at Grand Bend
and the other in the Port Franks
area.
Three charges were laid under
the Liquor Control Act and an
even dozen under the Highway
Traffic Act.
Exeter and district may be one
step closer to having a family life
counselling service.
A •group of interested citizens
met Monday evening to discuss
the possibility of forming a
family life committee to serve
the community and area and the
outcome may be a counsellor who
will be available one night per
week,
The committee are presently
just laying ground work for the
project. Rev. Glenn Wright, who
is one of the members, said that
they want to make sure that a
firm basis is laid for the project,
both in terms of "refining the
goals of the organization into
something specific" and in terms
of public knowledge and
awareness.
John Cosgrove, a social worker
from the Goderich Pyschiatric
Hospital told the meeting Mon-
day night that the personnel is
available for one night per week
for six months if the need is
established.
"Part of establishing the need
will come with simply trying it
out," said Rev. Wright.
Counselling would hopefully be
available in the areas of legal aid,
personal finances and just about
any other aspect of family life.
In addition, the committee
hopes to be able to set up an in-
formation resource centre, with
the ability to provide literature,
films and speakers concerning
the family structure and
pressures on it.
Another meeting will be held at
the Presbyterian Church March
26 at 8 p.m, for anyone interested.
The committee hopes at that
Meeting to look at its prioritie
(the counselling, the education or
both) and to come up with a clear
definition of its purposes.
