Suitable for A three-minute im-
promptu speech.
During the business part of the
meeting, it was decided to order
another 100 cook-books to sell ,
Plans were also made for cen-
tennial, including tours of five
historic homes in Exeter and a
tea, July 3. They are also con-
sidering entering a float in the
Centennial parade.
It was also decided to donate
$25 to the Exeter Figure Skating
Club for a tape recorder; and to
invite the chapter's founder, Mrs,
George Irving, Simcoe to the
Founder's Day banquet in April,
Mary Ellison and Marie
Beaver were in charge of the
program, "Express yourself".
Mrs. Beaver introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Annabelle
Golightly, who was disguised as
Mrs, Ellison.
She portrayed how not to give a
speech. Following this, each
member chose a topic from the
roll call list and had to give a
three-minute impromptu speech
on that topic. Each speaker was
then assessed and three Golden
Tongue awards were given. The
winners, however, wished to
remain anonymous.

Donations up
for Bibles
Just over half of the con..
munities in Western Ontario
increased their givings to the
Canadian Bible Society last year.
The London office, which is
responsible for Bible Society
work in Western Ontario, reports
this week that 84 of the 162
Branches of the Society in its
Western Ontario District showed
increases, two were the same and
76 showed decreases in 1972 over
the 1971 figures.
In this area, specifically, total
contributions were down slightly
from last year, and although
most remained approximately
the same, a few rose con-
siderably and a few dropped
drastically.
The 18 communities considered
from this area reported a total of
$4,932.35 for 1972, compared with
a total of $5,386.82 for 1971. This is
just about a 9 percent decrease
from last year.Individualfigeres
may be seenbelow.
Donations in Western Ontario
generally showed an over-all
increase of about 5 per cent for a
total of $105,324 in 1972 as against
$100,880 in 1971. This did not in-
clude money contributed to the
new district headquarters
building in London, constructed
during 1972. Receipts for the new
building fund amounted to
$115,000 which met all the costs of
construction and furnishings.
There are increased demands
for Scripture throughout the
world, The Today's English
Version, published by the
Society, maintains its record of
being the largest selling
paperback book in the English
language. Over 36 million copies
have been sold since it first ap-
peared in .1966.
Scriptures are available in
nearly 1500 languages. In
Western Ontario, distribution is
made through the London office
in approximately 55 languages.
The following are individual
reports from local communities
for 1972:
Brinsley, $60.00; Centralia,
$10.00; Crediton, $285.75; Dash-
wood, $405.00; Elimville &
Thames Road $6.00; Exeter
$1,245.20; Fullerton $255.50;
Grand Bend $41.00; Granton

A meeting of persons interested
in forming a Lake Huron Park-

Lambton County take the
initiative.
As a result of the meeting held
in Grand Bend last week, GB
Reeve John Payne will be asking
Lambton county council this
week to approve the formation of
a permanent committee and allot
the funds required.
The purpose of the committee
will be to actively pursue a Lake
Huron Parkway from Sarnia to
Tobermory. One of the speakers
Ron Brittain of the St Clair
Parkway suggested a sound
proposal be submitted to the
Ontario government. He said one
of the most important parts of the
submission should be a resource
map of the suggested route.
The St. Clair region man ad-
ded, "I would estimate an overall
budget of $2,000 would be
adequate for 1973."
At the regular session of Grand
Bend council Monday night,
Reeve Payne said he would be

Huron council has referred this
