Box 127, Dashwood, Ont. 5:6e Donations up for Bibles Just over half of the con.. munities in Western Ontario increased their givings to the Canadian Bible Society last year. The London office, which is responsible for Bible Society work in Western Ontario, reports this week that 84 of the 162 Branches of the Society in its Western Ontario District showed increases, two were the same and 76 showed decreases in 1972 over the 1971 figures. In this area, specifically, total contributions were down slightly from last year, and although most remained approximately the same, a few rose con- siderably and a few dropped drastically. The 18 communities considered from this area reported a total of $4,932.35 for 1972, compared with a total of $5,386.82 for 1971. This is just about a 9 percent decrease from last year.Individualfigeres may be seenbelow. Donations in Western Ontario generally showed an over-all increase of about 5 per cent for a total of $105,324 in 1972 as against $100,880 in 1971. This did not in- clude money contributed to the new district headquarters building in London, constructed during 1972. Receipts for the new building fund amounted to $115,000 which met all the costs of construction and furnishings. A meeting of persons interested in forming a Lake Huron Park- way Commission has suggested Lambton County take the initiative. As a result of the meeting held in Grand Bend last week, GB Reeve John Payne will be asking Lambton county council this week to approve the formation of a permanent committee and allot the funds required. The purpose of the committee will be to actively pursue a Lake Huron Parkway from Sarnia to Tobermory. One of the speakers Ron Brittain of the St Clair Parkway suggested a sound proposal be submitted to the Ontario government. He said one of the most important parts of the submission should be a resource map of the suggested route. The St. Clair region man ad- ded, "I would estimate an overall budget of $2,000 would be adequate for 1973." At the regular session of Grand Bend council Monday night, Reeve Payne said he would be asking Lambton county council this week to authorize the initial Area speakers are runnes up Carol Chapman, a Grade 9 pupil at Robertson Memorial Public School, Goderich topped nine elementary school con- testants in the Huron County finals of an Oral Communications Festival held in Clinton Tuesday. Runners up were two local youngsters, Paul Van Esbroeck, RR 1, Hensall, a Grade 8 pupil at the Precious Blood School, Exeter, and Ellen Van- denBygaart, Grand Bend, a Grade 8 pupil at Mount Carmel, Both were chosen as area win- ners at Mt, Carmel last week. John Mooney, Mount Carmel, and Mrs. Ray Hughes, Goderich, fi 0 do monies of $2,000, He continued, "We could recover part of this from the City of Sarnia and the County of Huron, We would like Sarnia to contribute $500 and have the balance split between Lambton and Huron." Huron council has referred this subject to their development committee for a report. Payne said it was interesting to note the provincial government is cutting grants wherever possible, they have increased funds for tourism and parks and have made available 25 million dollars for the purpose of purchasing lands to provide access and for beach uses for the people. In conclusion Payne who has been chairman of the organization committee said "I have personally financed this project and my long distance calls have been numerous. I By MRS. FRANK PLUMB Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Sturdevant have returned from an enjoyable cruise from Port Everglades, Florida, through the Caribbean Sea.
