W.C. Tupling began a series of
sermons under the general topic,
"How?" The sermon for the day
was "How Can I Know
Salvation?". Mr. Tupling said
that we are saved by faith, not
works, since no one is capable of
attaining the righteousness of
God; yet we are called to work
out our own salvation, actualizing
in our life the lordship of Christ.
The responsibility is ours, but the
power comes through Christ, said
Rev. Tupling.

Boom in
pizzas?
There's a boom in the pizza
business!
At least that was the indication
at Exeter council's meeting this
:.week when two building permit
'pplications were received for
pizza places.
Angelo Maruca, Grand Bend,
was given permission to make
interior renovations to the former
Eaid House on Thames Road
East for a carry-out food
business. Maruca operates a
pizza and spaghetti house at the
resort.
The house is located just east of
the Huron Motor Products used
car lot on Highway 83.
The permit is subject to ap-
proval of the building inspector.
A request from Albert
Robinson to install a pizza oven at
his home at 216 Andrew St. was
turned down by council. It is in a
residential zone,
Also turned down was a request
from A. Wieckowski to conduct a
small engine repair business in a
residential zone at 499 William
St.
A request to install two signs at
the Burkley Restaurant was
deferred until the protection to
persons and property committee
present a bylaw regarding the
erection of signs in Exeter,
Chairman Derry Boyle said a
draft had been received of the
Lucan bylaw and the committee
would meet to discuss it next
week and have a report for the
February 5 meeting.
It was hinted the committee
may consider prohibiting the
erection of overhanging signs.
A 12-year-old boy defined "mixed
emotions." "It's like hearing the
morning siren telling you that
school is closed because of a
blizzard, and you are in bed with
the flu,"
At the recent meeting of the
Presbytery of Stratford-Huron, it
was decided to continue with the
annual summer program at
Bayfield. For the past two or
three years, the Presbytery has
sponsored a coffee house and
beach ministry at Bayfield,
