"Myna birds? I exclaimed,
"Myna birds?Whatmyna birds?"
It was her turn to look
bewildered,
"Didn't you say we were
coming to the Myna Bird Sanc-
tuary?"
The light dawned and peels of
laughter broke forth.
As we got ourselves under
control we explained, "Listen, if
you're going to visit in this
country you're going have to
learn to understand and speak
English, It's the Jack Miner Bird
Sanctuary not the Jack Myna
Bird Sanctuary." (If only the
English could learn to pronounce
their R's properly!)
Well, it's a joke she's going to
have to live down on both sides of
the Atlantic the rest of her life,
At the end of their holiday when
theywere saying good-byethrough
our tears she grinned,
"Remember me to the myna
birds."
Then they were up in the clouds
with all the birds and away.

highway and gasped every time
we turned a corner and ended up
on the right side instead of the
left.
They were constantly arnazed
at the distance between towns
and between buildings. Their
almost disbelief at such 'wide
open spaees' opened our eyes to
the fact that we are, indeed, very
luelty to have so much elbow
room and no feeling of the world
pressing in on us.
The friendliness of the natives
delighted them. After almost
three weeks they felt they knew
every shop on High Street (Main
Street to you) and said everyone
they'd met in the stores had been
'ever so kind and helpful' as they
struggled with Canadian money
and prices.
We took them out to visit
several farms in the area and
again, through their eyes, saw
that we live in a very prosperous
part of the good earth.
On a trip to the north they were
spellbound by our thick forests,
our many beautiful lakes and
rugged country. The hugeness of
the Great Lakes overwhelmed
them, "It jolly well looks just like
the sea," they exclaimed,
Niagara Falls was a must and
donning slickers andboots to take
the elevator down below the
falls and feel the mist and spray
on their faces was a dream come
true for them.
We asked them if they would
like to see the Jack Miner Bird
Sanctuary. Yes, indeed they
would. So, one day we almost
flew down to Kingsville to get to
the sanctuary by 4 o'clock which
the brochure said was a must if
we were to see the best show of
all.
When we arrived we were met
by the stupendous sight of several
thousand grey Canadian wild
geese grazing on a vast, verdant
pasture.
The husband of our visiting
couple. a camera bug, starting
shooting film like crazy. Finally
his wife admonished him, "For
Goodness Sakes, Luv, don't waste
all your film on these
geese...save some for the myna
birds,"
gV GVVYN WHILSMITH
Like General MacArthur I have
returned, but unlike him not to
conquer but simply because I ran
out of excuses as to why I
shouldn't come back to work
after an absence of five months.
It was quite a summer and
certainly remote from the quiet
and rest I'd promised myself,
Our family seemed to move from
one climatic event to another and
the season left us with deposits of
both joy and sorrow,
On the joy side we acquired
another son-in-law and believe
me, he's a son-in-law what ia,..all
six foot six and 250 pounds of
him!
When it became apparent he
intended to join us 'wee people'
(not one over 5' 9" in the lot) it
threw us into something of a
tizzy, However, after shoring up
the foundations, strengthening
the beams, raising some door
frames and acquiring a longer
bed we no longer fear that the
floor will cave in or wonder
where we'll put him when he and
our daughter come for a
weekend. His heart is as big as
himself and he's adding a whole
new, interesting dimension to our
lives.
On the happy side, also, was the
trip with my sister to Isreal. An
experience neither of us will
forget and about which I'll be
writing from time to time,
Another gladsome event was
the visit of a couple of English
relatives who had never before
seen Canada. What a pleasure it
was to,have them and what fun to
show them around our little piece
of the world. It's a good ex-
perience to look at one's own
environment through the eyes of
a stranger,
On the way home from the
airport, the evening they arrived,
they wondered aloud where all
the cars were. "How come
there's no traffic?"
We recalled the pelting rush of
automobiles in the London
(England) metro area from
where they came and agreed
there weren't too many cars on
the road although it was an
average flow for that time of day.
They were titilated about
driving on the wrong side on the
