The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1972-10-19, Page 7New courses
in evenings
The Huron County Board of
Fducation's evening classes,
began Monday night at SHDHS ▪ with a number of new courses
being offered and an increased
enrolment over last year.
Among the new courses being
offered are gourmet cooking,
lingerie sewing, judo, basic
computer programming, eon-
sumer education and grade XIII
levels in chemistry, history and
mathematics.
The gourmet cooking and judo
classes have been particularly
well received with 31 registered
in the former and about 60 in the
latter — both men and women.
Principal J, L. Wooden said that
• both courses are going to have to
be split into at least two classes,
A number of courses which
were available at the school will
not be offered because of in-
sufficient interest. They include
family health, advanced
bookkeeping, grade XII biology
and advanced auto mechanics.
A number of other courses are
questionable, Although late
registration will be accepted on
opening night, Mr. Wooden said
he doesn't expect too many ad-
ditions, because most people
• pre-register.
Courses in doubt are men's
fitness and recreation, first aid
and expectant parent education.
Other courses may be combined
to accommodate those in-
terested, such as business
machines with computer
• programming and basic elec-
tricity with fundamentals of
electricity and appliance
maintenance for women.
Over 400 people are registered
to take at least one of the 24
courses offered.
Two further courses, golf in-
struction and interior decorating
will begin after the new year.

The Lucan Irish 6 are still hard
at practice with coach Steve
Storey really getting them in
shape for the coming season. By
the time you read this the team
will have played their first
exhibition game against the
Mitchell Hawks. Did I see you at
the arena?
On Friday, Oct. 20th at 7:30
p.m. the Irish will meet Mitchell
again, for a return game, This
game is being played in Lucan
because the Mitchell arena does
not have their ice in as yet.
President Tom England tells
me that he has received excellent
co-operation from his executive
and wishes to say thanks to these
men for their support. I think that
players and fans alike should
give these men a hearty thank
you. Note the picture in this
paper of the executive.
The management is con-
sidering having a dance with all
the music of the forties, All
proceeds to go to the Lucan Irish.
Anyone in my age group would
certainly enjoy this, it would
bring back a lot of memories to a
lot of people.
That's it for this time. See you
at the arena.

Different election
for school kids
Mine of the pupils at Exeter
Public School will be eligible to
vote in the upcoming federal
election October 30, but things
will be different when they elect
their own governing body on
Friday,
School officials decided to take
advantage of the student council
elections at the school and try to
simulate the democratic
processes of the federal election.
The pupils are going through
all the procedures including
written nominations, with a
certain deadline, and a certain
number of names on the
nomination; posters and elec-
tioneering; and on the day of the
election, they will have a student
returning officer,
Thursday morning, the
nominated candidates are to
Make their campaign speeches.
Also on Thursday, each of grades
IV to VIII will elect two student
representatives. Then on Friday,
morning, the general election for
the positions of president, vice
president, secretary and
treasurer will take place,
We hope to make it both in-
teresting and a learning ex-
perience, said Principal James
Chapman.

The Jets formed in the fall of 1968

Durham and Woodstock.
The biggest part of the Jets
roster for Sunday's opening game

coaching duties.
At the present four goal tenders
are in camp, They are Wayne
Parkinson, Lorne Daer and Don
Stewart, all with experience with
the Jets and newcomer Ken
Blackman.
It's the same story hack on
defence with Jim Pinnegar, the
only newcomer. Trying for
defence postions are returnees
Barry Baynham, Bill Bourne and
Larry Willert, all Exeter natives
along with Bill Dunnell, and
manager Don Urbshott. While
coach Nairn hasn't decided on the
composition of his forward lines
he could be found at centre
himself between Pete Loveless
and Pave Revington, a graduate
from the Lucan Irish juniors.
Jacques -Cousineau, a speedy
forward who came to St. Marys
several years ago from Northern
Ontario to play Junior "B"

Robb has been a mainstay for the
