The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1972-10-19, Page 7New courses in evenings The Huron County Board of Fducation's evening classes, began Monday night at SHDHS ▪ with a number of new courses being offered and an increased enrolment over last year. Among the new courses being offered are gourmet cooking, lingerie sewing, judo, basic computer programming, eon- sumer education and grade XIII levels in chemistry, history and mathematics. The gourmet cooking and judo classes have been particularly well received with 31 registered in the former and about 60 in the latter — both men and women. Principal J, L. Wooden said that • both courses are going to have to be split into at least two classes, A number of courses which were available at the school will not be offered because of in- sufficient interest. They include family health, advanced bookkeeping, grade XII biology and advanced auto mechanics. A number of other courses are questionable, Although late registration will be accepted on opening night, Mr. Wooden said he doesn't expect too many ad- ditions, because most people • pre-register. Courses in doubt are men's fitness and recreation, first aid and expectant parent education. Other courses may be combined to accommodate those in- terested, such as business machines with computer • programming and basic elec- tricity with fundamentals of electricity and appliance maintenance for women. Over 400 people are registered to take at least one of the 24 courses offered. Two further courses, golf in- struction and interior decorating will begin after the new year. • JETS SIGN ARENA AGREEMENT The Lucan-Ilderton Jets will be using the facilities of the new Ilderton arena for their home games as they step up into OHA Sr. "B" ranks this year. By the time you read this the team will have played their first exhibition game against the Mitchell Hawks. Did I see you at the arena? On Friday, Oct. 20th at 7:30 p.m. the Irish will meet Mitchell again, for a return game, This game is being played in Lucan because the Mitchell arena does not have their ice in as yet. President Tom England tells me that he has received excellent co-operation from his executive and wishes to say thanks to these men for their support. I think that players and fans alike should give these men a hearty thank you. Note the picture in this paper of the executive. The management is con- sidering having a dance with all the music of the forties, All proceeds to go to the Lucan Irish. Anyone in my age group would certainly enjoy this, it would bring back a lot of memories to a lot of people. That's it for this time. See you at the arena.
