It is that time of year again
with the Lucan Irish practicing
for the coming season,
The Irish have a new coach this
year, a man I am sure most
Lucanites know, Steve Storey
formerly with the all Ontario
Champs, Lucan-Ilderton Jets.
Steve also has an assistant in one
of our executive members, Bill
Neil,
• The team has had five prac-
tices at the time of writing and
coach Storey tells me that he had
close to 40 boys at each practice.
These boys are young but have
strong legs and he feels they will
be enthusiastic hockey players.

About 40 hopefuls
seek Irish berths
Times-Advocate, October 12, 1972 Pape J i
Jim Freeman, Lucan's Mr,
Hockey, is back as manager with
23 years of either coaching or
managing hockey teams behind
him.
The first league game will be
played in Lucan on October 25 at
8:15 p,m. This team needs all the
support they can get from the
fans of the district.
It was thought for a while that
they would have to drop the team
but we hope with help from in-
terested people this will net
happen. Our young people need
this kind of clean fun. Not only for
the players buyt also for the fans.
At present the management is
trying to set up an exhibition
game so we hope to see you at the
arena before the start of • the
league games. Come out and
support not only the team but all
the many people that give of their
time to make this team possible.
Well, that's it for this time.
SEE YOU AT THE ARENA,

423 yards while holding St. MaryS
to only 91 yards. The first down
records also in favour of South
Huron by 14-4,
Another team effort
The junior contest was quite
similar to the seniors, with the
defence coming up with several
key plays to get possession of the
ball.
Early in the first quarter, the
Panthers went 44 yards in four
plays to score with Paul
Truemner taking the ball over
from 14 yards out, Bill Wilson
tossed a pass to Tim Ross for the
two point convert.
In the second period it was
Brian Taylor culminating a 47
yard South Huron march with a
three yard plunge off tackle,
Tom Hayter intercepted a pass
on his own 20 yard line to stop a
St. Marys drive, Quarterback Bill
Wilson led the team down the
field 90 yards in seven plays and
went over himself for the touch-
down on a short plunge.
Paul Truemner ran 22 yards off
tackle in the fourth quarter for
the final Panther score. Wayne
Riddell recovered a fumble to
bring a late St. Marys offensive
drive to a quick halt,
PaulTruemner gained210 yards
on 14 carries to lead the South
Huron attack, Brian Taylor was
good for an even 100 yards in 12
cracks at the line.
Strong tackling by Larry
Johns, Steve Jennison, Wayne
Oke and Wayne Riddell led the
South Huron defence to their first
shut-out of the season.
Bill Baker was named the best
offensive player of the game
while Larry Johns and Seve
Jennison shared honours on
defence,
