Comrades a Look at the Legion
is a Look at Canada, From Coast
to Coast, Legion programs
mirror the color and diversity of
our Country. The scope is in-
fin i te. It might be a girl guide in
Labrador, winning a second class
badge, it could be the thrill of
achievement in the Legion's
public Speaking Contest, in an
Ontario Town,
New Brunswick offers further
journeys into citizenship with its
youth leadership camp, while in
Prince Edward Island there has
long been a Legion Program for
the retarded. In Newfoundland,
Legion might mean Track and
Field and at Moose Jaw the name
of the game is baseball.
Internationally acclaimed, the
Legion's national track and field
program has trained 1200
coaches and 360 athletes, Total
cost of the national and provin-
cial programs tops $1 million. In
other sports such as hockey,
baseball, swimming etc involve
100,000 youngsters and cost
$600,000 yearly.
If you are not already a
member of our great
organization and would 'Like a
piece of the action' just call your
local branch of the Royal
Canadian Legion who will be
most happy to supply the
necessary application form - Go
Active + Go Legion.
A peek into the future -
Comrade Carl advises that
Saturday nite entertainment will
commence on September 23, This
will be a combination of a Corn
Roast and the 'People's Choice'
will be in attendance to supply
the additional entertainment.
Then on Saturday September
30, 'Adam and Eve' will supply
the entertainment. Due to the
popularity of this couple it will be
held in the upstairs hall. But
more of this later - just thought
we would let you know what's up
at Lively 540.
And that's 30 for this week -
remember - Occasionally we
meet a person whose brain might
be defined as a scheme-machine,
I'M NOT GOING TO DO IT - Eight and one-half month old Holly
Darling may not have been the happiest model in the Fashion Show
at the Lucan Fair Sunday, but she was certainly the Youngest. Here,
she is shown with her mother, Mrs. William Darling, Lucan, who also
modelled in the show. T-A photo
