To witness the colour and pageantry, to be one of the 2,500 band members present, to sense the enthusiastic response of a crowd of approximately 35,000 was an unforgettable experience. The London Band placed second in its class, coming behind the winning band by only 41/2 points. Hearts were stirred when four pipers from a Scottish band and the brass band of the Scotch Guard played Amazing Grace. Alf said, "When I was a boy my mother used to take me to C.N.E. Little did I think I'd one day perform in front of the grand- stand!" Bible School Vacation Bible School was completed Friday evening by demonstration for parents and friends of work accomplished during the week, The program was under the direction of Rev. Douglas Warren, There was singing, a skit and a play, In an address Brenda Fahner, one of the helpers, summed up the spirit of the school. There were 15 teachers and helpers, and an average daily pupil attendance of 138, After the program guests moved down- stairs to view the handwork on display, Bridal Shower Monday evening a shower was held in the Sunday School rooms of Zion United Church in honour of Shirley Pfaff. Mrs. Lloyd Roeszler conducted the program. There was a piano solo by Valerie Finkbeiner and one by Elva Finkbeiner, a reading by Mrs. Earl Neil, singing and a contest led by Mrs. Laurence Amos. Diane Hodge read the address. Diane, Mrs. Glenn Miller, Mrs. John McLandress and Elaine Pfaff assisted Shirley in opening the gifts. Lunch was served. Personals Mrs. Douglas Warren and Mrs. Ed, Ed Finkbeiner attended the U.C.W. retreat at Alma College this week, Maureen Condon, Ruth Prest and Eunice Spenler, London, spent the weekend with Gwen Finkbeiner at her home. The four young ladies sang in the morning service of Zion United Church and in the Sunday School Mrs. Bruce Cann, Exeter, was guest soloist at Zion United Church Sunday morning. She was accompanied by Mrs. Ed Fink- beiner. Robert Bushfield Jr. is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London; Irvin Finkbeiner is in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Norman Eveland are having the opening of their Furniture and Gift Shop on Main Street Friday evening. The public is invited. The young people of Zion United Church went to the summer cottage of Mr. & Mrs. Earl Neil, Tuesday evening for swimming and a wiener roast. Couple mark 25 years The Exeter Canadian Legion Hall was the scene of the 25th wedding anniversary of Allan and Catherine Elston, Centralia. The surprise party, given by their family was comprised of a smorgasbord dinner, with en- tertainment by Lloyd Grattan, London.
