evening with official ceremonies
and will conclude Sunday
evening. All activities will take
place in the Lucan arena and the
adjoining fairgrounds.

UCW plans
fair booth
The worship service at Lucan
United Church was taken by Rev.
W. C. Tupling. Soloist was Mrs.
G. Birnie accompanied by Robert
Blackwell. The sermon was
entitled "Jesus: The
Resurrection and the Life."
The executive of the Lucan
U.C.W. met Tuesday evening to
finalize plans for their booth at
the Lucan Lion's Club Fair.
Women of the church are invited
to share their talents in baking,
sewing and handicrafts for the
booth.
The assistance of all the
women of the church will assure
a successful booth.

Congratulations are in order
for Comrade Colin Ireland and
Comrade Gord. Elson of Branch
540 who entered the District A
horseshoe playdowns hosted by
Duchess of Kent Branch, Royal
Canadian Legion, London on
Saturday, August 12 although
placing fifth, they didn't win a
berth in the Provincial
Playdowns.
However, Comrade Gord Elson
did win third place in singles
horseshoes and thus won a berth
in the Provincial Command
playdowns to be held in Waterloo.
Well done, chaps and good luck
and good shoes at Waterloo,
Gord.
Here is an interesting article I
came across the other day and
supplies food for thought: What's
the value of a thing? A plain iron
bar is worth about $5.00. This
same bar made up into horse
shoes is worth about .$15,00, if
made into needles, the bar is
worth $9,285.00
But if the iron bar is converted
into balance wheels for watches ft'
is worth $250,000.00. The moral of
the story is that your value is
determined by what you make of
yourself.
Did you ever experience such
weather, hot one day, wet and
cold the next — changeable is not
the word for it — Now hear this —
I can tell you of a spot where the
hospitality is always warm and
friendly and that's in the Sea,
Land and Air Lounge of good old
Branch 540 where Smilin' Carl
and Li'l Len, our genial stewards,
are always waiting to welcome
you. See you there, comrades,
