In spite of frequent rain showers Monday, a full program of ball games starting at 10 a.m. was carried out at Cromarty Community Park, and a supper of barbecued pork chops, salads, cake and ice-cream was served to nearly 800 people. In their first game, Frank Cromarty A boys defeated Gordon Laing's Cromarty 13's. by 13 - 4 and in a second game won over Alvin Davis' Cromarty C's by 16 - 8. Joyce Miller's little girls team won over Helen Finder's 19 - 4, In I he afternoon, Cromai•ty Bantam girls, coached by Fred McCaughey and Cathy Cameron, defeated a Dublin Team 20 - 11 and South Hibbert Bantam boys, with Jim Miller and Cliff Mar- sden as coaches, defeated North llibber( I3antams with Bill Lannin as coach by 19 - 8, Russell Millers team of girls defeated John Wallace and Rae Butson's senior girls 17 - 11, and the Juvenile boys, coached by Lloyd Cameron and Laverne Wallace, blanked Dublin 8 - 0. After supper Cromarty ladies were victorious over Staffa ladies winning 29 - 16, The sports day concluded with an all-star game in which Chiselhurst-Cromarty and Staffa-Roys battled to a 16 - 16 tie. The South Ilibbert Athletic Association has erected a bright new nameboard at the entrance to Cromarty Community Park. W.M.S. The August meeting of the Womens' Missionary Society of Cromarty Church was held at the home of Mrs. T. L. Scott, Nine members answered the roll call with a Bible verse on prayer. Mrs. Grace Scott presided and opened the meeting with a call to worship, A hymn was sung and scripture was read in unison, followed with meditation and prayer by Mrs. Scott. Mrs. Calder McKaig had charge of the study book on Africa with Mrs. Mervin Dow and Mrs. M. Lamond assisted with readings. Reports were given by the secretary and the treasurer. The president, Mrs. Dow, conducted the business period. Mrs. Sam McCurdy, for her topic chose sketches bearing on prayer and (he article about the new Moderator, of the General Assembly, Rev, Max Putnam, from the Presbyterian Record. Mrs. T. L. Scott read "Your Prayers are Asked," from Glad Tidings. Current events were given by each member reading an article on Africa, Mrs. Calder McKaig reported 9 visits and 14 cards sent to the sick. The meeting closed with a hymn and the Lord's prayer in unison. A dainty lunch was served and a social hour enjoyed, Personals Mrs, J. R. Jefferson returned home Saturday from a ten-day holiday with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. John Jefferson and family at Sault, Ste. Marie, Mr. & Mrs. Otto Walker, Mr, & Mrs. Hugh Currie and Joanne, Dorchester, spent a two-week's holiday touring through the eastern provinces. David Hulley, Winthrop, is holidaying with his cousin, Billy Hulley. Guests with Mr. & Mrs. K. McKellar Monday evening were Mr. & Mrs. William Sillery, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Mundy, Stratford, Mrs. Mildred Crago and Mrs. Allan Somers, St. Marys; Mr. Sz Mrs. W. N. Binning and Jane, Mitchell; and Anne Finnie, St. Marys. Mr. & Mrs. Alex Walker and family, Dowling, are visiting relatives here and in London. Alec Scott is working on a construction project at Belleville. Several Cromarty area residents have been holidaying away from home: Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Laing and family, Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Dow and girls and Frank Allen at Pine Lake; Mr. & Mrs. James Miller in the Bruce Peninsula; Mr. & Mrs. Robert Kinsman and Mary Kinsman visited with relatives in the western provinces. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Waites, Comber, visited with Mr. & Mrs. Earl Kinsman and attended the barbecue at Cromarty Com- munity Park. Mr, & Mrs. Alex Ramsey visited Sunday with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. James Ramsey, Moorefield. Lindsay McKellar, Seaforth visited with Mr. & Mrs. Laurie McKellar and family.
