He added, "All we want is too keep the property for children's use, it's a much better alter- native to playing on the streets," The park located on William street north was first used for playground activities in the mid- fifties when Doug Smith was the recreational director. In later years supervision was taken off the park because of expense and a decrease in population of younger folks. Hackney also reported a fence along the east side of the property had been torn down this winter during snow removal operations of the neighbouring Guenther- Tuckey transport firm. Secretary Eric Carscadden was asked to write to the tran- sport company asking that the fence be repaired. per- accidents Total darnade in the crash was listed at $2,000 by Constable Don Mason, On August 7, a car driven by John Hamilton, London, failed to negotiate a detour on the Crediton Road and struck a bridge culvert under con- struction, The driver was treated at South Huron Hospital for serious head lacerations and a passenger, Larry Klyne, London, was taken to London hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises, Constable Al . Dump - Continued from Front Page the town hall, and finish using the four to five tons of coal which remain from last winter, or whether to fix it and install an oil burner. Council accepted Helen Jermyn's suggestion that in the long run, it would be cheaper, both in terms of economy and comfort, to install a large, commercial oil burner. A delegation representing residents of the north end of Exeter was assured by town's RAP committee Monday night that Queen's Park would not be used as a trailer park. At the meeting spokesman Norm Hackney pointed out the land in question is owned by area residents and managed by a board of trustees. At the July meeting of RAP, members agreed to establish an overnight trailer park on the property in question. Over the past few years, RAP employees have been cutting the grass and doing minor main- tenance at the park which is used by children from the north end of town. Reeve Derry Boyle, chairman of the meeting in the absence of Gord Baynham suggested that the park be taken over by the town in a similar manner to the Usborne council grants division Two land division applications were approved at the August meeting of Usborne township council. Annual Kinfest proves a success The crowning of the Exeter Kinfest Queen was the highlight of the Kinsmen's 1972 attempt at Oktoberfest held recently. There were six official contestants in the hot pants contest, and last year's Queen Ann Morrissey crowned the 1972 queen Lois Porter 19. Her princesses were Linda Whiting, Joyce Cunningham, Theresa Romaniuk, Gloria Davis, and Brenda Parkinson. She also had a 'prince' in the contest, however, in the person of Bob Jerome, Attired in gold velveteen hot pants, track shoes, a navy and white patterned halter top and a baby blue ribbon and bow in his hair, he walked across the stage and joined the ladies, The Kinfest festivities were held earlier this year than last, and proved far more successful as a result. The 1971 Oktoberfest was held to pay for an ice-scraper worth $3,200 which the Kinsmen had donated to the arena. Inclement weather, however, resulted in a loss of $600. All was with them this year, though, and the day-long event netted the club a $1,000 profit. Rocky and the Buzzards, a London rock group, entertained throughout the afternoon. A . German-style supper and dance in the community centre topped off the Kinfest. Cook for the sauerkraut, sausage and spare-rib supper was Kinsman Dean McKnight, assisted by his father-in-law.
