Exeter's RAP committee
agreed Monday night not to make
a charge to the allstar minor
teams and the intermediate
baseball team for use of the local
diamond for their games.
However, the teams will in turn
be responsible for marking out
the diamond themselves.
The decision was reached after
rec director Alvin Willert asked
RAP what to do regarding the
situation of Sunday ball games.
It was explained that it would
require an employee being paid
overtime wages and this was not
economical unless the teams
were to be charged.
Assistant director, Gary
Middleton, said it took about two
hours to prepare the diamond.
Reeve Derry Boyle said that
when he managed ball teams he
had to prepare it himself and felt
others should do the same.
He said it was the "easy way

out" in lieu of making a charge
for the diamond. "You can't get
blood from a stone," he added.
RAP chairman Gord Baynham
was opposed to the idea. He noted
that baseball was on the upswing
and he would like to keep it that
way by helping the teams have
the diamond ready for play.
However, he failed to get any
support.
A discussion was held on a
request from the intermediate
team that a new hardball
diamond be built. They now use
the softball diamond since the
former hardball diamond was
taken over by the rodeo grounds.
Boyle, who had opposed
moving the hardball diamond,
noted RAP wouldn't be facing the
problem if they had listened to
him.
He suggested that no action be
taken until next year to deter-
mine if intermediate hardball
was going to continue in the
community.
During the discussion, Willert,
explained there were now about'{
17 games per week on the
diamond and that it cost RAP
about $20 a week in staff mem-
ber's time to keep the facilities
up.
