We're talking about the Exeter entry in the Ausable soccer league. The Exeter club coached by South Huron District High School teachers Damien Solomon and Al De Haan are competing in league play with two teams from Grand Bend and single entries from. Huron Park, Strathroy, Parkhill, Ailsa Craig and Arkona. The team to date is made up mostly of students of South Huron. In talking to Damien Solomon this week, he emphasized the fact this team is open to soccer players of any age and he would welcome additional players. The club has already played four league games, all in a losing cause. But Solomon said, "we're improving. We scored a goal in the last game losing by a 3-1 count." The home games are played every other Sunday at the South Huron High School grounds. This Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, the Exeter club meets Taxandria of Arkona. In succeeding alternate Sundays the home game will get underway at six o'clock. Members of the team at present are Tim Stover and Bryan Tuckey, John Rasenberg, Paul Robinson, Brett Lavier, Gary Lavier, Ian Doidge, Dennis Doidge, Harold Moddejonge, Dave Parsons, Chris Daniel, Al Hem, John Muller, Rob Dickey and Steve Blockeel. The club in addition to extra playing personnel could use more coaching help and of course an important ingredient for any successful operation, fan support. We need help In order to keep our readers up to date on all baseball and softball activities in the area we need some help. Some of the teams and managers are very co-operative in keeping us informed of their games but many others we do not hear from. With a total of 17 teams in the area it's almost impossible to contact each team official personally each week. We would appreciate getting at least the highlights of the games with the top hitters and the pitchers mentioned. Scores would be appreciated as early in the week as possible but will be glad to take scores as late as Tuesday nights. Need strong men Officials in charge of this year's Friedsburg Days in Dashwood need some strong men to fill the tug-of-war entry lists. Last year's champion Shipka Bulldogs are expected to be back to defend their title. We wouldn't be surprised if Cliff Russell already has his boys in strict training to take care of all opposition. Also, entries are needed for the various divisions of the horse shoe competitions. Entries in tug-of-war or horse shoes can be made to Glenn Webb or George Tiernan. In addition, other sports events are being planned for the two day celebration, June 30 and July 1. Area hockey school Time is fast approaching for the annual hockey school at the Huron Park arena. This year's program, four weeks in length is being operated by a new organization with some of the same instructors. Ron Mason,, who played his junior hockey in Seaforth and is now the hockey coach at Lake Superior State College in northern Michigan is one of five instructors. Ron has been with the Huron Park school since its inception. The first week-long session opens on Sunday July 16 and the fourth concludes on Saturday, August 12.
