Exeter's centennial eommittee
agreed this week to invite the
Lord Mayor of Exeter, England,
to be one of the special guests at
the community's celebrations
during the first week of July in
1973,
The invitation will be delivered
to the Mayor of this town's
namesake by Rev. and. Mrs.
George Anderson, who plan to
visit Exeter in the near future.
Books will soon be placed in
local stores in which residents
can write down the names and
addresses of former residents
who they think should be invited
"home" for the celebrations.
This project is being un-
dertaken by the Exeter Legion
Ladies' Auxiliary and the in-
vitations will be sent out early
next year,
A list of the stores in which the
books have been placed will be
printed at a later date.
The committee drew up some
tentative plans for the week-long
celebration at their session this
week.
It all gets underway on Friday,
June 29 with registration and a
street dance.
Saturday will see a giant
parade through town to the
community park, followed by
speeches from the visiting and
local dignitaries and a beauty
contest to name "Miss Exeter
Centennial".
The Kinsmen will be in charge
of a program to follow at the park
and after a barbecue dinner,
there will be a professional
variety show.
Sunday morning, the churches
are being asked to stage in-
dividual "homecoming" services
and the afternoon will see a
drumhead service undertaken by

Several ladies of the com-
munity attended the retirement
reception held in Lucan Public
School on Friday evening in
honour of Mrs. Margery Morley
of Whalen and Mrs. Muriel
Cobleigh of Lucan. Mrs. Morley
was presented with a 40 day clock
and many other lovely gifts.

see a Jet come in, had lunch there
and took their first train ride to
St. Marys and returned by bus
last week.
Mrs. Hugh Davis held a sur-
prise going away party for Mrs.
Betty Johnson, Centralia, a
member of St. Patrick's A.C.W.
Mrs. Johnson was presented with
a gift from the members,
Refreshments were served by the
hostess.
Helen Simpson, Clandeboye,
spent the weekend with Brenda
and Ian Carroll.
Mr. & Mrs. Charles Tindall,
Grand Bend, spent Saturday with
their grandson, Robert Tindall.
Mr. & Mrs. Harry Carroll at-
tended the graduation of their
great niece, Julie Canham in
Detroit, Sunday.

Traverse City Michigan, at-
tended the Hoffman-Davis
wedding Saturday and were
weekend guests with Mr. & Mrs.

their suggestions to Reeve
Derry Boyle, chairman of the
committee.
Plans outlined have yet te be
ratified by the clubs and groups
which are being asked to take
charge of them.
competition on Thursday evening
and during that day the Board of
Trade will be staging a sidewalk
sale.
A "big name" attraction will be
on Friday night's program. The
Exeter Lions will investigate the
possibility of securing such at-
tractions as Tommy Hunter or
the Mercey Brothers, etc.
A twilight horse race event is
being considered for Wednesday,
along with an afternoon at
Riverview Park to include swim
contests, other water sport ac-
tivities and a community picnic.
A teen dance will be held that
evening in the arena.
The Exeter Promenaders will
be asked to host a square dance
Saturday, there will be a rodeo
or horse show event, and possibly
a dog show. A street dance will be
held downtown and a rock dance
at the arena.
A band tattoo is being con,
sidered for Sunday, to conclude
the celebrations.
