A very enjoyable evening was spent at Amber Rebekah Lodge last Wednesday evening when District Deputy President Mrs. Ruby Bell and the Past Noble Grands of the Lodge entertained the Past Noble Grands of • District No. 23 at a social evening, Mrs. Bell D.D.P. presided over the program which opened with a sing song with Mrs. Edith Bell 'at the piano, Mrs. Beatrice Hess of Zurich was guest soloist and favoured with vocal solos ac- companied at the piano by Mrs. Berne McKinley. Sylvia Bell, Hensall played guitar selections accompanied by her mother Mrs. Edith Bell at the piano. Mrs. Dorothy Parker gave a humorous reading entitled "Bessie's Boil." Mrs. Berne McKinley gave coronet selections accompanied by Mrs. Beatrice Hess at the piano. Mrs. Ruby Bell D,D,P, gave a reading "Housecleaning In My Heart." Mrs. Rena Caldwell showed slides on her trip to Alaska and narrated many interesting points of travel. The meeting concluded with prayer by Mrs. W, D. Jarvis, A decorated anniversary cake, centred with candelabra, was cut by Mr. Stewart McQueen and Mr. W. R. Bell, the oldest members of the Kirk Session. Mr. McQueen has been a member for 45 years and Mr. Bell for 26 years. A social hour was enjoyed by all, following: lady travelling the greatest distance, Mrs, Margeurite Crawford, Brussels; lady with most change in her purse, Mrs. Lillian Grummett, Seaforth; lady wearing most jewellery, Mrs. Mac McKellar, ,Seaforth; lady who had been a last Noble Grand the longest, Mrs. Henderson, Seaforth; lucky cup, Mrs. Hildebrandt, Seaforth; lucky chair, Mrs. Winnifred Edgar, Brussels. Following the program, refreshments were served by the Past Noble Grands of Amber Rebekah Lodge and a social hour was enjoyed, Seventy-five Past Noble Grands attended from Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth, Brussels, Exeter and Hensall. Jarvis conducted Confirmation service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday when the following young people were confirmed: Brad Baker, Tammi Baker, Douglas Bell, Linda Bell, Sylvia Bell, Gregg Campbell, Garry Gass, Anne Knight, Stephen Knight, Gary Koehler, Terry MacDonald and Robert Vanstone. The Kirk Session welcomed these young people to the fellowship of Carmel Church. The service was iji contemporary style with the confirmees providing music in their own style, making their debut as 'the youth choir. The W.M.S. of Carmel Presbyterian Church celebrated their 82nd anniversary on Monday evening with guests present from Goderich, Seaforth, Belgrave, Exeter, Cromarty and London. The president, Mrs. Gordon Schwalm presided over and opened the meeting with a poem and prayer, and extended a welcome to all the guests. Mrs. John Soldan and Mrs, A. Orr were in charge of the devotional. Mrs. Soldan read the scripture and the "Birthday meditation" followed by prayer, Mrs. Orr read a poem, "The Art of Growing Old" followed by prayer. Mrs. Robert Hoffman of Dash- wood was guest soloist and was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Malcolm Dougall. Mrs, Gordon Whitton, St, Catharines, past president of the Hamilton London Synodical was introduced by Mrs. Rochus Faber. Mrs. Whitton gave an interesting address on the•W.M,S. work and congratulated the Carmel church on their an- niversary. Mrs. Pearl Love extended a vote of thanks to Mrs. Whitton. Mrs. W. H. Adamson of Lon- don, treasurer of the Hamilton 'London Synodical and now on the National Council of Canada Board, was introduced by Mrs. Glenn Bell. Mrs. Adamson spoke Women at UC learn of Africa Unit IV of Hensall IJCW met on June 1 with the leader, Mrs. J. McAllister presiding. The Scripture reading from Corin- thians was read by Mrs. Harry Caldwell, 'Mrs. McAllister gave the devotional on Joy, and also read an article written by Rev. George W. Goth, The topic was given by Mrs. Ernest Chipchase on life and work of Dr. Sidney Gilchrist in Africa, Mrs. Luther and Mrs. Britton sang a beautiful duet "Amazing Grace" accompanied by Mrs. T. Sherritt at the piano. Roll call was answered by 29 members and 1 visitor. Mrs. Sherritt gave the Treasurer's report. It was reported that the ladies had made 104 visits. Plans were made to cater to the Banquet on June 22, and to have a dinner meeting in September. Mrs. pou reported for the Queen- sway' Nursing Home and Mrs. Russel Errat reported on the bales sent.
