History is theme
of WI meeting
The May meeting of Hensall
Women's Institute met in the
Legion Hall with President Mrs,
B, Beaton in the chair, Members
answered the roll call by telling
where and by whom they were
baptized,
Plans were finalized for at-
tending the District Annual and
delegates were appointed. The
next meeting will be in the form
of a dinner at the Hotel, Members
wishing to attend should contact
Mrs. M. Sherritt,
The theme of the meeting was
Historical R„esearch with con-
veners Mrs. Elgie and Mrs.
Sherritt. The guest speaker, Mrs.
A. Couper gave a fascinating talk
and demonstration on spinning
and dying wool. She also had on
display several garments which
she had made,
Piano duets by Cathie and
Michael Neilands were enjoyed
by all, as were accordion
selections by Patsy Bender and
Susan Grigg from Dashwood.
Mrs. Elgie read a poem "The
Patchwork Quilt", and displayed
several beautiful quilts. Prizes
were awarded to several grand-
mothers — Mrs. Beaton, Mrs. Orr
and Mrs. Binnendyk.
Hensall man
passes away
Garfield Earl Broderick passed
away in Victoria Hospital May 10
in his 67th year after a short
illness in hospital.
He was the son of Edgar
Broderick and Minnie Rannie
former residents of Exeter and
was born in Hay township April
23, 1906.
At one time Mr. Broderick
farmed in Hay township, moving
to Hensall in 1950 where he was
employed as stock clerk with
Boise Cascade Co.
Mr. Broderick is survived by
his wife, the former RoseLeibold,
one son Ronald . in Stouffville,
and a daughter Karen at home.
Also surviving are one brother
Russell of Exeter, four grand-
children, a niece and a nephew of
Exeter.
The funeral took place from the
R. C. Dinney funeral home on
Saturday with Rev. Donald Beck
officiating. Interment was in
Exeter Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ernie Davis,
W. J, Cameron, Wayne Smith of
Hensall, John Atkinson of Clin-
ton, Robert Skinner and Lorne
Twamley of Stratford.

daffodil tea
The members of Amber
Rebekah Lodge sponsored a
Daffodil Tea and Dessert Euchre
on Wednesday, May 10.
It was well attended, with 14
tables playing euchre. The prize-
winners for the pink tallies were
Mrs, Gilbert Johns, Exeter and •
Mrs, Pearl Eyre, Brucefield ;
Mrs. Wm. Caldwell, Brucefield
was high winner for the green
tallies and the consolation was
won by . Mrs. Mavis Atthill,
Exeter; the lone hands was won
by Mrs. Lena Kirkland, Exeter

and the lucky prize went to Mrs.
Marjorie Broadfoot, Brucefield.
Following the euchre a bake sale
was held in the lower hall.

upsets me. If her mother is out of
hospital in time, she'll give us
hell for practically everything.
And if she isn't, we'll all regret it
all our lives.
But don't worry. It won't be

Burton. But my daughter will be
a beautiful bride, if I have to
dress her myself.
I'll let you know.

Huron Hospital, Friday, By lifting his hand he indicates that he has
heard a sound through the earphones. The clinic was the first of its

Presbyterian Church held its
meeting Monday evening,
President Mrs. Rachel Schwalm
opened the meeting with a poem,
The worship was taken by Mrs.
Ruby Hoggarth and Mrs. Edith
Bell using the theme "Mothers".
After the roll call, which was
answered by 12, several poems
and passages were read.
Plans were discussed for the
82nd birthday party of the WMS
to be held June 5, at 8:15 p.m.
with the guest speaker to be Mrs.
Gordon Whitton of St, Catharines.
Prayer was given by Mrs. Pearl
Love, and Mrs. Blanche Dougall
read "The act of growing old".
