Greenway UCW met at the
home of Mrs. H. Dobson, May 3.
Mrs. Inez Eagleson and Mrs.
Milt Pollock were in charge of the
program. Mr. Dobson opened the
worship service with an in-
teresting tape-talk on Africa.
Mrs. M. Pollock also gave a
reading on South Africa and
closed this part of the meeting
with prayer.
President Mrs. R. Brown
presided for the business period.
An invitation was read from the
Centralia ladies to their Spring
Tea May 10,
It was decided to cater to a
wedding June 3, groups IV and V
to be in charge.
Plans were made for the
strawberry and ham supper,
June 17.
In closing Mrs. Joe Horner
read an article on The High Cost
of Living and the hostess,
assisted by the lunch committee,
served refreshments.
Anniversary
Mr. & Mrs. Earl Turner,
Parkhill, celebrated their 40th
wedding anniversary with family
and friends by having supper at
the Old Mill, Parkhill.
A social evening followed at the
home of their son and daughter-
in-law. Gifts were opened and
lunch was served.
Mr. & Mrs. Turner have one
son, Ron, a daughter, Mrs. Ross
(Donna) Clarke and seven
grandchildren.

Mrs. Martha Geromette has
returned from a trip to Califor-
nia. She was one of a group of
twenty-two who was on a three
week tour by motor coach leaving
London April 9,
Guided tours were enjoyed in
Salt Lake City, San Francisco,
Los Angeles, Las Vegas and
Indianapolis, and through the
Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Mrs, Geromette reports that,
driving through the farming area
in all the states on their route, one
could not help but be aware of the
scarcity of water; with so much
waste land evident, so many long
bridges and only a small stream
of water below, and here and
there a ghost town, reminiscent
of the hopes and dreams of
pioneers of an earlier day,
However, she said Texas was the I '
one State where farms looked
good and livestock were grazing
in luscious pasture.
Las Vegas was spectacular
with its brilliant lights, situated
right on the desert and open to its
crowds of people 24 hours a day.
But for Mrs. Geromette, the
most appealing place was San ELMWOOD
Francisco with its roller coaster
streets, She says she has to agree
with the one who said, "If Rome
was built on seven hills, then San
Francisco was built on forty-
