Hockey in Exeter for this
season is finished but the
memory will linger on for months
to come of the tremendous games
played by our Ontario Champion
Jr, Hawk team, This year's team
under coach Bob White and
manager Bob Baynham are truly
champions on and off the ice.
The final series with Bancroft
and winning the O.H.A. title was
the final results of many years of
good Jr. teams here in Exeter.
This years team was a well
balanced team and had the desire
and drive which makes for
champions.
With the exception of the
Clinton series all other series
wins were accomplished on the
other team's home ice, The
Belmont series was won four
straight with the final game in

four games again the winning
game in Simcoe. The Fergus
series was won in Fergus in five
games, Then to top it all off the
final series with Bancroft and
winning it four straight with the
final two wins in Bancroft.
I would like to congratulate the
Jr. Hawks for the first Ontario
Championship in hockey for the
Town of Exeter.

Fall behind early
In Sunday's game in Napanee,
the home team Comets took a 3-0
lead by the four minute mark of
the second period and the Jets
were never able to recover,
Rick Gerow, son of Napanee
coach Walter Gerow scored two
goals before the six minute mark
was reached in the first period.
Pete Lollar made it 3-0 in the
second before the Jets could find
the range for the first time.
A three-way passing play
produced the first Lucan-Ilderton
goal at 8,19 of the second with
Steve Proctor tipping in a shot
from the stick of Doug Galloway.
Defenceman Ron Cauduro
started the play away,
Before time expired in the
middle frame, Jim Stinson and
Ron Truesdale each scored to put
Napanee into a 5-1 lead.
A pair of good combination
plays put the Jets a little closer
but they were unable to get any
closer than 5-3.
Terry Bourne was on the
registering end of a three-way
effort with Jacques Cousineau
and playing manager Don
Urbshott at 6.33.
The final L-I scoring spurt
came with less than four minutes
to go as Doug Galloway fired the
puck behind Dave Gavel in the
Napanee net on a play originated.
by Barry Baynham and Hon
Cauduro.
The Napanee club took 12 of the 20 penalties called in the heavy
going with high sticking, cross
checking and charging calls
being prevalent,
Brinsley wins
Ausable cup
The Ausable Valley Rec hockey
championship was won Sunday
night by Brinsley after an ex-
citing seven game series with a 6-
1 win over Lieury.
Lieury scored a similar
decisive 7-2 victory Wednesday
night to even the series at three
games apiece and force the
seventh anti deciding contest,
George Tryon led the Brinsley
attack with a three goal per-
formance in the final game.
Adding single goals on the way to
the championship were Greg
Revington, Jim Glavin and
Lawrence Amos.
Gord Walsh was the only
Lieury player to get the puck past
John Bierling.'
Two goal efforts by John
Butterfield and Lewis Slater
were best for Lieury in the 7-2
Wednesday win. Checking in with
one goal each were Martin
Steeper, Paul Glavin and John
Bridgette.
The only Brinsley markers
were notched by Jim Glavin.
Saturday's game was a
reversal of form as far as the
early portion of the first period
was concerned,
Before the halfway mark was
reached the Jets were ahead 2-0,
Veteran Steve Storey started the
goal getting with a successful
shot on a power play at 8.43 with
the help of Doug Galloway and
Bob Knack,
Only 28 seconds later, the Jet
supporters had a chance to cheer
again as Jamie Robb converted a
pass from Jacques Cousineau
into a goal.
Two goals in exactly three
minutes by Meehan Bonnar late
in the first period quickly put the
Comets back on even terms.
The only goals of the second
period were fired by Jim Stinson
and Earl Smith to put the Comets
in front 4-2, Early in the closing
frame, Bonnar scored again to
complete a hat trick per-
formance.
Dick Doughty was the final
marksman for the Jets at 6.19 and
Lee Paradise of Napanee put the
game out of reach with a score at
12.55.
The Jets used both goalies in
both games. Lorne Daer was in
the nets to start the Saturday
game and was replaced by Don
Stewart in the second period.
Sunday it was a switch again with
Stewart starting and Daer taking
over later.
The penalty parade included
10 trips for the Comets and six for
the Jets. Both games were played
before packed houses at the
Napanee arena.
