Thursday's game was the third in a best-of-three series after each club had won one game. Scott Burton was the top scorer for the new champs with a three goal performance. Fred Wells and George Bruneau checked in with two goals apiece. Single goals came from the sticks of Bill Farquhar, Hans Zeehuisen and Don Campbell. Jim McDonald with a hat trick effort was best for the Juveniles while Rick McDonald fired two successful shots and Doug Webber, Doug Parsons and Jim Pfaff notched one goal each. Third period action was marred when Jim McDonald of the Juveniles was struck in the face with the puck. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Eight stitches were required to close gashes above and below one eye. McDonald was released from the London hospital Tuesday with about 85 per cent of vision restored. Dark Angels lead in Legion darts With only one week remaining in the regular schedule of dartthe Exeter Legion mixed league, the Dark Angels hold a commanding three point lead at the top of the standings. The Dark Angels have a massed season point total of 98 while the Sharpshooters and BJ's are deadlocked for second with 93 points and the Doublers follow in fourth spot with 88 points to their credit. The battles for most individual honors remain close. For most games won Duff Rothbauer leads the men with 44 wins while Milan Sedlak is close behind with 40. Barb Hearn's 27 wins are best for the ladies. Next in line are Anna Romaniuk and Janice Sedlak with 24 victories apiece. Larry Brintnell has a high score of 160 to lead the men while Anita Hunter, Sue Edginton, Annie Lawson and Barb Hearn are tied for the ladies lead with 140. This week's scores were: BJ's 4 — Shiphunters 1 Scotties 4 — Winkers 1 Dark Angels 4 — Dart Sharks 1 Late Niters 3 — B A's 2 Canners 3 — Doublers 2 Noisy Ones 3 — Sharpshooters 2 D & S's 3 — Itchy Four 2 The Litcan-Ilderton Jets will skate onto the ice at the Huron Park arena, Friday night at 8:30 for their most important game of the year. After a disastrous road trip to Napanee- over the weekend, the Jets find themselves down three games to one to the Napanee Comets and need a win. Friday to stay in contention for the Ontario Hockey Association Intermediate "13" championship they won two years ago. The Napanee club, defending ORA champs, downed the Jets 0-4 Hockey in Exeter for this season is finished but the memory will linger on for months to come of the tremendous games played by our Ontario Champion Jr, Hawk team, This year's team under coach Bob White and manager Bob Baynham are truly champions on and off the ice. The final series with Bancroft and winning the O.H.A. title was the final results of many years of good Jr. teams here in Exeter. This years team was a well balanced team and had the desire and drive which makes for champions. With the exception of the Clinton series all other series wins were accomplished on the other team's home ice, The Belmont series was won four straight with the final game in Belmont. The Simcoe series in four games again the winning game in Simcoe. The Fergus series was won in Fergus in five games, Then to top it all off the final series with Bancroft and winning it four straight with the final two wins in Bancroft. I would like to congratulate the Jr. Hawks for the first Ontario Championship in hockey for the Town of Exeter. The Shamrock banquet is here in Exeter at the Legion Hall, Friday April 28. A dance will follow at 9 p.m. and all minor hockey followers are invited to attend. Admission for the dance is $2.00 per couple. Saturday May 6 a meet the Hawks party will be held at the Legion much the same as the get together we had for the Hawks last year. So keep these dates open and plan to attend. Ballet and Gymnastics are finished for the season. I must say thanks to Susan and Debi Wooden, the instructors for these classes for the great season we had, It takes a lot of hard work and patience and again I say thank you, Mr. Solomon and Mr. De Haan, two of our high school teachers are trying to form a soccer club. The Jets will be far from full strength .for the fifth game as the result of injuries suffered in two rough games in Napanee. Veteran forward Steve Storey suffered a separated shoulder and cracked ribs and will be on the sidelines along with Bill White who missed both weekend games. Others on the limp are Barry morning at 10 o'clock:— All boys ages 14 18 who would like to play soccer are asked to come to this meeting. Fall behind early In Sunday's game in Napanee, the home team Comets took a 3-0 lead by the four minute mark of the second period and the Jets were never able to recover, Rick Gerow, son of Napanee coach Walter Gerow scored two goals before the six minute mark was reached in the first period. Pete Lollar made it 3-0 in the second before the Jets could find the range for the first time. A three-way passing play produced the first Lucan-Ilderton goal at 8,19 of the second with Steve Proctor tipping in a shot from the stick of Doug Galloway. Defenceman Ron Cauduro started the play away, Before time expired in the middle frame, Jim Stinson and Ron Truesdale each scored to put Napanee into a 5-1 lead. A pair of good combination plays put the Jets a little closer but they were unable to get any closer than 5-3. Terry Bourne was on the registering end of a three-way effort with Jacques Cousineau and playing manager Don Urbshott at 6.33. The final L-I scoring spurt came with less than four minutes to go as Doug Galloway fired the puck behind Dave Gavel in the Napanee net on a play originated. by Barry Baynham and Hon Cauduro. The Napanee club took 12 of the 20 penalties called in the heavy going with high sticking, cross checking and charging calls being prevalent, Brinsley wins Ausable cup The Ausable Valley Rec hockey championship was won Sunday night by Brinsley after an ex- citing seven game series with a 6- 1 win over Lieury. Lieury scored a similar decisive 7-2 victory Wednesday night to even the series at three games apiece and force the seventh anti deciding contest, George Tryon led the Brinsley attack with a three goal per- formance in the final game. Adding single goals on the way to the championship were Greg Revington, Jim Glavin and Lawrence Amos. Gord Walsh was the only Lieury player to get the puck past John Bierling.' Two goal efforts by John Butterfield and Lewis Slater were best for Lieury in the 7-2 Wednesday win. Checking in with one goal each were Martin Steeper, Paul Glavin and John Bridgette. The only Brinsley markers were notched by Jim Glavin. Saturday's game was a reversal of form as far as the early portion of the first period was concerned, Before the halfway mark was reached the Jets were ahead 2-0, Veteran Steve Storey started the goal getting with a successful shot on a power play at 8.43 with the help of Doug Galloway and Bob Knack, Only 28 seconds later, the Jet supporters had a chance to cheer again as Jamie Robb converted a pass from Jacques Cousineau into a goal. Two goals in exactly three minutes by Meehan Bonnar late in the first period quickly put the Comets back on even terms. The only goals of the second period were fired by Jim Stinson and Earl Smith to put the Comets in front 4-2, Early in the closing frame, Bonnar scored again to complete a hat trick per- formance. Dick Doughty was the final marksman for the Jets at 6.19 and Lee Paradise of Napanee put the game out of reach with a score at 12.55. The Jets used both goalies in both games. Lorne Daer was in the nets to start the Saturday game and was replaced by Don Stewart in the second period. Sunday it was a switch again with Stewart starting and Daer taking over later. The penalty parade included 10 trips for the Comets and six for the Jets. Both games were played before packed houses at the Napanee arena.
