Jack didn't disappoint me
Comrades, "Jack Frost" that is.
My trip to the Soo was truly one of
color; the scenery was beautiful.
Yea sir, "Jack" did a colorful
job. It sure was great to meet
with my old pals and nice to get
home and get rested up prior to
getting back to the grind.
Incidentally I have news for you
folks who go around saying "it's
too late" "I'm getting too old."
Let me tell you something, I
was talking to a chap, while in the
Soo, who was born in 1878 and
planning a trip to Europe in 72.
It's the truth, for I helped him
make application for his
passport. Now you can say "It's
never too late to plan." Look
forward to the future. Plan
ahead; do your thing, You'll be
glad you did.
Attention all ghosts, ghouls!
Comrade Ross Needham advises
there will be a Halloween dance
at Branch 540 on Saturday
October 30. You wanted to get out
of the attic and haunted house,
now is your chance to meet the
other "whatcha may call it's" at
540. the bewitching hour is
sometime between 8;30 p.m, and
1:00 a.m.
While on the subject of
Halloween we urge all drivers to
exercise that little extra caution
needed to protect our young trick
or treat goblins as they go from
door to door in costumes
which unfortunately, in some
October 9, 1971 in an autumn
setting of rusts, golds, reds and
purples, the wedding vows were
exchanged in Wesley United
Church, Highbury Ave. North, by
Barbara Gayle Stewart, third
daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Wm. A.
Stewart, Denfield, and Beverly
Thomas Shipley, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Shipley, Denfield.
Rev. Susan Seymour, Granton,
performed the double ring
ceremony.
The church was decorated at
the front with baskets of gold and
rust mums, red gladioli and
colored leaves, the focal point
being the wedding candle. The
pews were marked with colored
leaves tied with gold bows and
streamers,
Wedding music was supplied
by Ron Alderton, London, at the
organ. A group of the Earle Terry
Singers sang the processional
hymn and later, "The Lord's
Prayer" and "We've Only Just
Begun." Margaret Sanborn,
Ilderton, rendered a trumpet solo
"You'll Never Walk Alone"
during the signing of the register.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, was lovely in a
hand created gown of candlelite
white polyester cashmere,
featuring a fitted bodice to which
was attached a wide peplum,
both of which were trimmed with
French lace accented with seed
pearls. The A-line skirt flowed
into a short train and her
Madonna-type, off-white French
instances, impair their vision.
Parents please make sure you
check the children's treats
thoroughly, we still have the odd
ball around who delights in
placing razor blades in apples,
etc. And a word of caution to the
older pranksters - Before you
commit that act of "Fun -
Think." Think of the final result
of your act; some unsuspecting
motorist, may be killed or
severely injured because you
thought it fun to move a
barricade or flashing light. By all
means go out and have fun-fun
you may look back on with
delight - not guilt,
Comrade don't forget to set
aside a couple of hours on Nov.
5th or 6th to assist Comrade
Harvey Hillman with his Poppy
Drive. Yes comrade all it will
take is a couple of hours. That is,
if we all get behind the "BIG
PUSH." That's what it's all
about; service to others.
An important date for the
youngsters of Lucan and area to
remember is Tuesday November
16 - for this is the date our good
ladies of the Auxiliary start the
registration and figure skating
sessions. Now would be a good
time to get the skates out, make
sure they are sharp so you can
start right in. Don't forget
"Power Skating" will be an
added attraction this year,
540's "Early Bird" campaign
is in full swing comrades. Have
something to "Crow about." Pay
your 1972 dues now, Support your
illusion veil, bordered with wide
French lace, fell gracefully from
a headpiece embroidered with
pearls. She carried a short
cascade bouquet of yellow roses
accented by tones of purple,
variegated foliage and trailing
ivy.
The attendants were Gay
Stewart, sister of the bride, as
maid of honour, and Eva Jean
Tunks, Komoka, and Maxine
Karges, Toronto, as bridesmaids,
They wore sleeveless ivory
English crimpolene jersey
jumpsuits under multi-colored
long hooded coats in tones of
brown, golds and purples. They
carried sheaf bouquets of dried
flowers in tones of gold, accented
by purple.
The best man was Gary Dixon,
Ailsa Craig. The guests were
ushered by Fred Lewis, Denfield,
and John Walls, Denfield. The
two nephews of the bride,
Masters Jeffrey and Todd
Jenken, Belmont, acted as ring
bearers.
The wedding reception, dinner
and dance were held at The
Ivanhoe, London.
For their honeymoon trip, the
bride changed to a gold wool pant
suit with tan sweater and tan
accessories.
The groom is a graduate of the
Centralia College of
Agricultural Technology. The
bride is a graduate of the London
Teachers College and is presently
teaching Home Economics for
the London Board of Education.
Mr. and Mrs. Bev. Shipley will
reside on the groom's farm at RR
1, Denfield.
