Early this week Huron MP
Bob McKinley issued a news
release regarding the .great
concern among milk and cream.
producers regarding the delay in
the Canadian Dairy Commission
cheques being issued in a
reasonable time following
shipment.
The Minister of Agriculture
Made a statement in the House of
'Commons last Thursday after a
question asked by McKinley on
the opening day of the recon-
vening of the session, to the effect
that:
The last of the final payments
for the 1970-71 year went to the
Post Office on July a.
There was a consequential
delay in starting payments for
the 1971-72 year, beginning with
deliveries in the month of April.
Subsidy cheques for April
manufacuring milk deliveries on
August 11 and for June deliveries
on September 3.
CCAT sets
class record
With enrollment up in all
divisions to a record of 250
students Centralia College of
Agricultural Technology has the
largest attendance of schools of
agriculture in Ontario. The
college opened, in the fall of 1969
with 70 students.
Donald Orth, Director of
Student Affairs, told the T-A "We
are especially pleased with the
increased enrollment in the
agricultural course, with 69 first
year students and 25 seniors."
For the first time three women
have signed up for this course,
one being Mrs. Paul Passmore of
RR3, Exeter. Her husband is
enrolled in the same course at the
senior level.
The Home Economics division
is up again from last year with 62
girls entering the first year, and
37 in the second,
In Animal Health, 35 new
students have enrolled with 28
second year students continuing
the studies they commenced last
year. Mr. Orth said three
quarters of the people in Animal
Health are women.
The students come from many
areas in the province with some
coming from the West and
Quebec. This year several local
young people are attending the
college.
Thirty five members comprise
the staff. Those joining this term
are Ronald Death, MBA; Mrs.
A. Lobb, BA; James O'Toole,
BScA, and Donald Camerson,
BScA in Agriculture Business
Management.
Joining the Home Economics
staff are M. Fogelman, Mrs. P.
M. Hewitt, and Mrs. F. M.

Those for April cream
deliveries went to the Post Office
on August 4 for May deliveries on
August 20, and for June deliveries
on September 3.
The subsidy payments for those
three months, therefore, went out
within a one-month period.
Starting with July, payments
will be back on the regular
schedule. Those for manufac-
turing milk should go to the Post
Office by September 13 and for
cream by September 17.
Some enquiries which may
have been received may have
had to do with payments to
Ontario fluid milk shippers, or
better known as those on
graduated entry, The basis of
calculating subsidy eligibility for
this group has been changed,
partly to conform with the
market quota program, in a way
which will simplify the
arrangement for them.
This, however, involved ex-
tensive calculations and
reprogramming which could not
be started until the final data for
last year had been finished, and
which delayed starting payments
for this year.
However, the April subsidy
cheques for Ontario fluid milk
shippers should have gone to the
Post Office on September 10.
Barring any unforeseen
problems those for May should go
to the Post Office by September
15, for June by September 18, and
for July by September 24.
McKinley added that if, after
allowing a reasonable period of
time for delivery of these subsidy
cheques, producers have not
received them, they should make
inquiries either of the Dairy
Commission or himself in Ottawa
or his home in Zurich on
weekends.

Enrolment in the Huron County
public school system is down, it
was learned last Tuesday
evening at the board's regular
meeting.
Enrolment September 7 was
13,171 students. Last year, on the
first day, 13,434 students
registered.
Elementary school have 8,519;
secondary schools, 4,609; and
schools for the retarded, 43.
It was also learned that the
secondary schools are fully
staffed despite the fact that the
board was pink-listed during the
past few months.
A Science teacher from South
District High School and a
French teacher from Seaforth
District High School were the
only two teachers who didn't sign
contracts again after the salary
dispute was ended. The Science
teacher had gone into private
business and the French teacher
had moved with her husband to
another location.
The cafeteria at Wingham
District High School will be
operated this year by Bill Lee on
a concession basis at no profit or
loss to the board.
At Seaforth, there will be in-
vestigations into the need for an
express line where students may
purchase items such as hotdogs,
soft drinks, ice cream, etc.
The new addition to the
Seaforth Public School opened on
schedule although there is still
work to be done on it. Grade 7

and 8 students are housed at the
high school at ,the present time
however.
The situation with the McKillop
kindergarten students seems to
have righted itself for the time
being. The board after con-
siderable study, agreed to hold
kindergarten classes on an
alternate day basis until
christmas at which time the
matter will be reviewed.
The board as well as the
member from McKillop, John
Henderson, seemed satisfied with
the new bus system which began
in McKillop when school opened.
This amalgamation of buses ran
smoothly according to
spokesmen with only two
students "misplaced" for short
periods that day.
The new system involves nine
buses meeting at Winthrop and a
grand transfer of 410 students.

Cathy Simmons
speaks to ladies
Cathy Simmons spoke to the
women of Caven Presbyterian
Church, Monday evening, and
related her impressions of The
Presbyterian Congress held at
Guelph. Cathy was one of several
hundred delegates from across
Canada who attended the three-
day event.
She said she was impressed
with the enthusiasm shown, and
enjoyed the privilege of talking
and listening to other Christians
expressing their beliefs. She felt
an adult study group in the
church would be of great benefit
to the members.
During the evening, Cathy
taught the ladies several' new
hymns she had learned at The
Congress.
Business was conducted by the
presidents, Mrs. Fred Simmons
and Mrs. Norman Stanlake. A
takeout dinner was planned for
October.

SHUR•GAIN
IT'S IN PROPER SOW FEEDING •
If there are any secrets in profitable hog
production,
Most hog producers acknowledge the need of
feeding milk-producing feeds, such as Shur-
Gain Nursing Sow Ration, to sows during
nursing periods, but some still believe they
can cheat a little on the nutritive needs of
their sows during the dry periods.
The cost difference between a complete and
partial dry sow feeding program is negligible,
yet the results of a proper feeding program
during pregnancy can be larger, healthier
litters and sows in condition for re-breeding
immediately following their nursing period.
Two sow rations, just part of Shur-Gain's
secret of successful sow feeding. They are
yours for the asking. Stop by your local
Shur-Gain Feed Service Dealer. Pick up some
free hog performance charts and we'll tell you
all about it.
