Rt, Rev. William Bourdeau
said his last mass at St. Peter's
Roman Catholic church at St,
Joseph's Sunday morning, June 6
after serving the parish faithfully
for 19 years.
On Monday the Monsignor
retired as pastor of the parish he
so loved, and prepared to enjoy a
more leisurely life at his property
near Hayfield, which he calls Val
Marie,
There he has six acres of land,
which will give him something to
do to pass the time away. "It's
just a bush with a pond away
from the lake, he said, "and
try and develop it into something
like a park. Work is the only way
I can relax."
Monsignor Bourdreau was
born and raised in Tilbury, where
he attended both public and
separate school as a youth. He
received his BA degress from St.
Therese College in Quebec, and
then took his theological course in
St. Peter's Seminary, London.
Following his ordination into
the priesthood in 1927, he served
for some time in Hotel Dieu
Hospital, Windsor, as chaplain,
instructor of nurses, spiritual
director for the Sisters, and part-
time chaplain for the navy. He
also served four years as
assistant at Sacred Heart Church
in Windsor.
their departure to British
Columbia. Mr. & Mrs. McLennan
had been members for two years.
PERSONALS
Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Rohde
returned home Tuesday evening
from their honeymoon.
Mr. & Mrs. William Snow
entertained Sunday in honor of
Mrs. Luker's birthday. Those
present were, Mrs. Luker, Mrs.
Jennie Moore, Mrs. Gertie Moir
Hensall, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Moir
and family, Mrs. Madge Luther,
Gorrie, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Moir and
family, Kitchener, Mr. & Mrs.
Clinton Moore, Wyoming, Mr. &
Mrs, Calvin Moore, Watford,
Karen and Janet Kerslake,
Elimville, Mr. & Mrs. William
Snow Jr. and Tina.
Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Edgar ,
Gorrie, were Sunday guests with
Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Knight.
In 1946 Monsignor Bourdeau
started his first term as parish
priest at St. Peter's Church, and
stayed until 1954. Then he spent a
year in Paincourt and six years
at the Orphanage in London. In
1961 his love for the St, Peter's
Parish brought him back, and he
has served since then until the
present time.
The successor to Monsignor
Bourdeau at St. Peter's will be
Father Alphonse A. Robert, who
arrived in the parish Friday.
