Performing solo numbers were Kathy Holtzman, Nancy Underwood and Rick Hayter. The normal intermission was interrupted several times with the appearance of Snoopy and a couple of clowns. Snoopy in addition to passing out candies to the many youngsters at rinkside was curious about a fire hydrant that happened to pop up at centre ice. The popular cartoon star was none other than another polular member ofthe local skating group, retired banker Charlie Smith. The comedy routine featured pro Brad Loosley and Jerry Witherspoon of Woodstock, Loosley also performed a solo act and teamed with gold medalist Carol Stoddart in a pairs skating effort. Gerry Finnen was master of ceremonies for the program with Harry Dougherty and Jack Underwood helping with lighting and communications. Others helping with decorations in the afternoon in addition to executive members were Keith Brittain, Jim Pfaff, Charlie Tiernan, Cec Finnen and Murray Dawson. Barb Dougherty is president of the Exeter figure skating club while Mary Holtzmann handles joint duties of secretary and treasurer. Directors are Flo and Jack Underwood, Lois Brintnell, Ann Prout, Louise Pincombe, Bea Dawson, and Dolores Fuller. The youngest skater, three-year old Susan Boyle presented pro Brad Loosley with a gift on behalf of the club. The following skaters participated in the show along with their respective numbers: Salute to Ontario: Kathy The first round of playoffs in the Exeter and district Rec hockey league get underway tonight, Thursday at the Exeter arena. The regular schedule winners, Newby Tire take on third place finishers, the Huron Park Plugs. The first game of the night at eight o'clock has the second place Dashwood Bears meeting the Exeter Bank Boys in the first game of a best-of-five series. The second half of the twin bill will have Newby Tire tangling with the Huron Park Plugs at 9.30. In the only playoff action, next Monday night, Dashwood and Bank Boys play their second game of the series at 9.15. Newby Tire finished the regular schedule in first place with a total of 25 points, one more than the second place Dashwood club, The Bears lost a good opportunity to take over first place when they lost the last game of the schedule Thursday night to Huron Park by a score of 5-1. In exhibition play, Thursday night, Newby Tire trounced the Juveniles 15.7. Grant Turner with a two goal effort led the Huron Park scoring against Dashwood. Checking in with one goal apiece were Bob Pinter, Lloyd Mathers and Glenn Neal, The lone Dashwood counter came from the stick of Larry McCann. Bob MacDonald scored four Pee wees lose in OMHA The Exeter pee wee hockey club failed to score a single goal in two games and were eliminated in Ontario Minor Hockey Association playoffs by Caledonia. After winning the first game in Exeter a week ago by a 9-4 score, the locals travelled to Caledonia Saturday and were blanked 4-0. The first half, featuring the younger skaters .in the club was devoted to a Candyland production and the more experienced members finished again victorious this time by a 2-0 count. Larry Haugh scored the only goal of the first period and Dennis Carty tied the count in the second session. Joe O'Rourke made the score 2-1 for Exeter early in the third and Larry Haugh followed with the winning score at 4.20. Tom Hodgins notched the final Lucan goal and the Hawks then fired three unanswered goals to cinch the victory. The final Hawk tallies came from the sticks of Ron Lindenfield, Joe O'Rourke and Haugh who completed his hat trick performance.
