The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1971-02-18, Page 6rage 6 Times-Advocate, February 18, 1971 FOR, ALL GOOD SPORTS By Ross Haugh Plan fun day The newly organized Exeter and district snowmobile club is planning a Family Fun Day at Exeter Community Park on Sunday, March 7. President Jim Newby and his enthusiastic executive met Monday night with representatives from the Exeter rodeo committee and the area 4-H snowmobile club to plan the numerous events. While six snowmobile races will be staged many other events are planned to interest all age groups. The 4-H club under the direction of leaders Maurice Love and Kevin Delbridge will be providing free rides for children attending the show. The rodeo angle will provide various races with a summer flavour. Included will be an egg relay race, bale pick-up and a toque pick-up. In the bale pick-up race, a toboggan will be drawn by a snowmobile and the rider will attempt to put at least three bales of his hay on his vehicle. The winner will be the one that can get the most bales on the toboggan and keep them on to the finish line while staying aboard himself. The time factor will also be taken into consideration in deciding the winner. Newby told us this week he expected to keep most of the attractions in front of the grandstand for the benefit of the spectators. He added, "This may necessitate some extra snow shovelling to have the seats clear, but we'll do it." A snowmobile race for children up to 14 years of age is on the agenda with machines up to 300 CC. The power limit for machines in the ladies' powder puff race will be 345 CC's. Ladies will get an opportunity to show their strength in a special tug-of-war event. Any women's group wishing to enter will be more than welcome. Seven ladies will make up each team and a full-roster would be appreciated although single entrants will probably be needed to fill out some of the teams. The six open snowmobile races will require an entry fee of one dollar for each event. Entry to the park for the full afternoon of activities will be one dollar for adults with children 12 years of age and under being admitted free of charge. School Hockey John McCarroll, physical education consultant for the Huron-Perth Separate school board has notified us of the annual International hockey game he has lined up with a Detroit team supplying the opposition.
