Blessed are the-young. Among
other scintillating things: they
will inherit the national debt.
The long-time hockey rivalry
between the Lucan-Ilderton Jets
and the Durham Huskies is
continuing at a higher pace
than ever.
Friday night at the Huron
Park arena, the Jets edged the
Huskies 3-2 but back in the
friendly confines of their own
rink Sunday afternoon, the
Huskies were on the top end of a
5-2 score.
Sunday's game produced a
total of 36 penalties with 22
going to the Durham club and
several fights occurred in the
crowd of over 800.
Bill Dunnell, one of the Jets
defensive stalwarts received a
game misconduct when he
entered a fight to help Wayne
Parkinson when the L-I goalie
was charged early in the game.
Chris Niesen of Durham, who
received a game misconduct in
Friday's game was in the line-up,
Sunday, despite the usual one
game suspensions for this type
of misbehaviour. OHA officials
have indicated Niesen will
receive a two-game suspension
for failing to observe the original
sentence.
The Jets, despite their loss to
Durham continue to lead the
Ontario Hockey Association
Intermediate "B" grouping.
As the result of a pair of
four-point wins over Acton, the
club has 23 points while
Durham follows with 19 points.
The Elmira Polar Kings are a
point farther back in third place.
The Jets face a busy schedule
with three games on the
weekend. They will host the
Fergus Thistles at the Huron
Park arena, Friday night at 8:30,
take on the St. Marys Lincolns
Saturday night at nine o'clock as
part of the annual St. Marys
Minor Hockey Day and then
travel to Elmira Sunday
afternoon to meet the Polar

Kings in an important league
contest.
Score early
In Durham Sunday
afternoon, the Jets struck
quickly with a goal in the first
22 seconds and were holding a
comfortable 2-0 margin when
Dunnell was ejected from the
game when he went to
Parkinson's assistance.
Playing coach Jack Nairn
scored the first goal tipping in a
hard point shot from
defenceman Don Urbshott.
Terry Bourne also assisted on
the play.
Only seconds after the four
minute mark, Doug Galloway
flipped a long, high shot that
eluded Durham goalie Gord
Becker to put the Jets ahead by
two goals.
Before the first period ended,
Durham tied the count on goals
by Butch Graham and Len Long.
Don Stuart took over in the nets
for the Jets in the first period
after Wayne Parkinson was
shaken up in the collision and
ensuing scrap.
The second period was
scoreless and the Huskies scored
three unanswered goals in the
final twenty minutes of play.
Scoring were Gerry Herman, Jim
Nixon and Len Long.
A hat trick
Centre Bill White took care of
all of the Jet scoring in their 3-2
win over the Huskies, Friday at
the Huron Park arena.
Durham playing coach Jim
Nixon opened the game scoring
at 7.12 of the first period. Late
in the period, White got started
on his scoring spree and put the
puck behind Gord Becker on
two occasions in less then three
minutes.

Lucan in the nets making some
key saves, especially in the first
period, holding the Sunsets off
the scoreboard.
The Lucan defence was much
sharper this time out and received
assistance from the forwards who
forced the Belmont players and
gave the boys at the blue line a
Chance to pick off the passes and
this resulted in only two goals
being scored by the opposition.
