Batt'n Around
— Continued from Page 4
somewhere along the line the
young lads will develop that
chi p-on- the-shoulder attitude
which is part of junior hockey.
As we pound out our first
column of a new year, perhaps
we could use the above example
as an indication of how we all
could enjoy the new year much
more — and that is by enjoying
life more fully as our children
do.
Ifyou watch them closely,
you'll see that most of their
enjoyment still comes from the
simple act of making their own
fun.
They hate to be spectators.
They want to perform and while
they usually strive to perform
their best, the quality of
performance does not dictate
the amount of enjoyment.
The kid on the wobbly ankles
who has trouble standing on the
ice gets just as much enjoyment
as the little guy who excels in his
hockey abilities.
They come to play and they
do it the best they can without
any jealousy over the fact that
someone can do it a little better.
Many adults have lost the
excitement and joy of
participation. We're spectators in
too many ways; and that's
unfortunate in a time when
many of our most pressing
problems could be brought
closer to a solution by the
participation and interest of
adults in every aspect of our
community life.
Kids don't have time to
worry and fret. Life would be
more enjoyable for adults if they
didn't either.
It has been suggested in
London that new cars be sold
only when the buyer can prove
that he has parking space
available. If not, he gets no car.
The idea comes from Japan,
where such a law has been in
effect for some time. A man in
Tokyo who wants a car must go
to the police station and show on
a map the precise location of his
parking spot. Only upon
verification of his claim Is he
allowed to buy a car.
