Greenway which has been in the
family for over 100 years and it
was in the living room of this
century old home that the long
play album was recorded on Miss
Curt's Hammond Spinet organ
with Leslie speaker.
It was an exhausting all day
session but she considers it was
worth it. "I'm not ashamed of the
record," she concedes modestly.
Being a busy farm woman,
Evelyn just doesn't sit around
playing the organ all day. She
helps her brother with the outside
work when needed, looks after a
flock of hens, attends to a
vegetable and lovely flower
garden, bakes bread every week
and keeps the deep freeze well
filled.
She is a generous, friendly
woman, and many visitors find a
jar of jam or a batch of
homemade candy being pressed
into their hands as they leave.
Often asked to provide wedding
music Miss Curts recalls playing
for around 40 ceremonies, the
first being her sister Luella's
marriage to Kenneth Smithers in

She has the distinction of
supplying wedding music for two
persons who were children of
people married to the strains of
her music a generation before,
"I like all music," she says, but
admits she hasn't been converted
to rock and roll, yet.
When asked how she chose the
selections for her record she
answered that it was a difficult
job but the pieces are favorites of
her and her brother, Manuel.
Side one of 'All Time
Favorites,' the name of the
album, includes a haunting
rendition of Blue Hawaii; an
Irving Berlin favorite, Yes Sir,
That s My Baby, and the ever
lovely, Memories. Side two
consists of eight selections of
sacred music melodies.,
All stir pleasant memories and
make for relaxing listening which
comes from the quiet and
gracious Curt's Centennial home
to your living room through your

Evelyn Curts took piano
lessons for less than three years,
never tried a music exam or
studied theory and is mainly a
self-taught musician who recently
cut a record of organ selections
now released for sale.
"I walked a mile and a quarter
each way every week for my
piano lesson and I never missed.
My teacher, Miss May Wilson, was
a good but very strict teacher who
often rapped my fingers with a
pencil when I hit a wrong note. It
was she who put the idea of
wanting to play in church into my
head," recalls Miss Curts.
Evelyn began playing at
Greenway United Church 30
years ago and says she can count
on her fingers the times she has
been absent since then. Choir
practice every Thursday, and the
Sunday service keeps her busy
but she says happily she 'has no
complaints and loves the work'.
She did, however, take a month
holiday from her duties this
summer.

Manuel, on a farm west of EXETER

We've all had our share of
filling out forms which demand
to know everything from what
side our ancestors fought on in
the Battle of the Boyne, to how
many teeth we've got left in our
head.
Our child, completing such a
form to be sent into the college
she'll be attending this fall,
queried, "Will I just put
housewife down for your
occupation, Mom?"
"No, indeed," I answered
emphatically. "Write down
`artist' "
She looked skeptically. "Why
artist?"
"Because," I said, backing up
to admire a beautiful cake I had
just decorated, "if that isn't a
. tell me what is."
To more clearly make my
point, I went on, "And didn't I
create the new bedroom curtains,
choose the colors for the kitchen,
sew the cushions for the Boston
rocker and arrange those flowers
on the table? All the work of an
artist," I said proudly.
"Of course, if you'd care to
give me a more high class title you
can put me down as being in the
diplomatic service."
"You're getting carried away,
Mom," she warned.
"Oh? Well, tell me pray, if it
doesn't take the diplomacy of a
U. Thant to keep the lives of five
other people in this family
running reasonably smoothly and
stop them from declaring war on
each other every day or so over
such grievances as whose turn it is
to dry the dishes, what TV
program will be watched or who
gets the car Friday night, I don't
know what it does take.

Ask any mother and wife what
qualifications she must have to
fulfill her duties and you'll end up
with a list as long as your leg.
Here are just a few: cook,
dietitian, teacher, trainer,
management consultant,
financier and business manager,
dressmaker, laundress, nurse, taxi
driver, housemaid, pyschologist,
and of course, referee,
The. Feminists tell us
housewives we feel unfulfilled
and unneeded, when in fact we
are often filled 'up to here' with
the duties we must perform. And,
show me a mother of a young
family who doesn't feel needed.
Some days she's sure that if she's
`needed' just one more inch she'll
fly apart at the seams.
No, we know our lives are full
and busy and that our jobs are
important, but if we're honest,
we also admit to days of feeling
bogged down with the routine ...
and occasionally we may even
feel trapped.
There are some things to help
overcome this.
As with every job attitude
makes the difference.
Start every day with
anticipation.
A long time ago I read a little
book in which the author stated
that every morning, often before
she opened her eyes, she
repeated the words, "This is the
day that the Lord bath made,
Rejoice and Be Glad."
Now, if you've lost half a
night's sleep with a teething baby
and rain is pelting against the
pane and the air is heavy there
seems little to be glad about.
But there is.
Just lie there and think for a
SODAS
few moments about the things
you can be happy for.
Everyday is a new beginning.
It's the first day of the rest of
your life so don't get off to a bad
start by being depressed and
despondent and hating to get out
of bed.
I came across an article for
salesmen entitled, "Ways to
Motivate Yourself." The rules are
good for housewives too.
1. Put your plans on paper.
Spell out your goals. A job well
planned is a job already half done.
2. Avoid procrastination. Get
an early start at the jobs you must
get done
3. Set deadlines. Don't
attempt more than you are able
to do but determine to do what
you can.
4. Promise yourself rewards ..
. an hour of reading, visiting,
sewing or working at your hobby.
5. Give yourself the right to
make a mistake. No one's perfect
. . exercise your sense of
humour. Laugh it off.
6. Be flexible. When the
unexpected comes, meet the
interruption gracefully and
positively. Then go back and take
up where you left off.
7. Relax . . . get rid of your
tensions . . . find enjoyment in
doing what you're doing. Do your
work the best way possible . . .
knowing an orderly, organized
household gives you a better
disposition and adds to your
husband's and children's
happiness.
Above all take pride in your
career!
`Just a housewife?' What
nonsense. It's the most important
job in the world.
