Your T-A Label AND WHAT IT SAYS This is the month when your sub- scription comes due, Expiry date is the first of this month. In a day when we are faced with increased costs on all fronts, The Exeter Times-Advocate announces a plan to cut costs and keep subscription prices at their present levels. Each month, we have a girl who types out notices that the subscriptions of certain subscribers are now due. THAT COSTS US MONEY. We have to provide envelopes and stamps and take them to the post office. THAT COSTS MONEY. Many people fail to renew upon the first notice and We have to repeat the whole procedure. THAT COSTS MORE MONEY. On the average, it costs us 50 cents per subscriber to get renewals. HERE'S OUR PLAN: Rather than send out renewal notices, we hope to entice you into renewing on your own by providing a cash prize of $25. If your subscription is due in October, you can be eligible by renewing before September 15. The names of all those renewing prior to that date will be put in a hat. The one drawn out will be richer by $25. Yes, that will cost us money too, but not quite as much as sending out renewal forms. We'll give it a try for one month. If it works out, we'll repeat it. However, subscribers whose renewal falls due after October can be eligible for the prize by renewing prior to September 15. grown, John D. Exeter, R R 3 Ont. The last digit shown indicates the year'(in this case, Odt, 1970) to which your subscription is paid. You jump ... and pray Predict „road fund surplus The Huron County Highways Department predicts an estimated surplus of $23,365 at the end of 1970, This will be possible because the Ontario Department of Highways has approved only $826,000 in subsidy or about $23,300 less than requested. "This means our total program will have to be reduced by $46,600 and will result in a surplus of county funds of $23,300," reported Elgin Thompson, Tuckersmith. "While it is a little early to say for certain, we feel that by deleting only a few minor items we can complete all major construction projects planned for 1970," continued Thompson. "This is possible due to savings made and by having completed some projects to date under the estimate. In 1970 roads program and estimates includes maintenance, roads and bridges, $582,000; road construction, $601,400; bridge construction, $286,000; and bank interest and committee pay, $60,000. A Long Range Plan for road reconstruction in Huron County was approved by council at Friday morning's meeting. The three top priority roads are Saltford Hill (0.5 miles); Highway 87 at Fordwich (1.6 miles); and County Road 1, Benmiller Corner, (0.6 miles). By MRS.
