MOOSONEE HOLIDAY
Last week Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Krueger drove to Cochrane, then
boarded the excursion train for
Moosonee. There were 450
people in the party, many of
them Americans who had left
their cars in Toronto and
travelled northward by train. One
of the group was a construction
worker who had gone to
Moosonee in 1926 and was
returning after an absence of
twenty-four years. He marvelled
at the new buildings and roads
and at the changes• which had
occurred.
In Moosonee the tourists
visited the horticultural society,
the museum, the Anglican
church. They proceeded by boat
to Moose Factory to view the
Indian hospital and homes.
Indians offered beads, moccasins
and gloves for sale. Indian
children sold shells and stones.
The waters of the streams and
lakes and even those of James Bay
are coffee coloured, stained by
the roots of the spruce and
tamarack trees.
