"600 members or more in the "The recent price advances for corn on the Chicago Grain. Exchange should clearly indicate to farmers. how sensitive the futures market is to supply conditions of a commodity on, or coming on the market," Gerry Huzevka, Chairman of the National Farmers Union corn and soya bean committee, said this week. He said that because of the short market supply situation of North American corn due to the Southern Leaf Blight, speculators on the Chicago Exchange had responded. "The higher bidding on corn Was reflected in other grains.and even in U.S. futures on pork bellies and beef, but unfo rtunately corresponding price advantages have not been recorded for Canadian grains. This" he said, "has been happening for years, but has never been so clearly illustrated." Mr. Huzevka said that farmers, especially in Ontario, have for too many years dumped their product into the hands of trade And processor speculators at harvest time, thus losing control of pricing. The National Farmers Union is presently engaged in a collective bargaining program on behalf of corn and soya bean growers in Ontario. Under such a program farmers are being provided the opportunity to supply markets, at a price they have some control over. Mr. Huzevka said that when farmers take full advantage of these programs, it could have the same results as short crop prospects on the Chicago market. He said the N.F.U. program of supply and pricing is designed after the private enterprise soyt shteern&tphaadt ais n pi nredvuterinets.i n most It won't take long for you to discover that this is no ordinary forage blower.
