Mrs. Delmer Skinner was a successful exhibitor at Exeter Fair Friday by winning 17 firsts,, eight seconds and six thirds in the ladies' department. There was an error in last week's paper. An item should have read "Mr." Charles Stephen is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital where he is undergoing surgery this week, Miss. Lori Kerslake, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Harold Kerslake is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital where she is under observation following_ convulsions last week. Mrs. Gilbert Johns is in St. Joseph's Hospital where she underwent ear surgery, Tuesday. The Seamsters sew at Staffa By MRS. J. TEMPLEMAN The third meeting of the Staffa Seamsters 4-H Homemaking Club was held at the home of their leader Mrs. Spencer Jeffery September 16 with 13 members present. Mrs. Jeffery discussed personal grooming from top to toe. She then reviewed pinning pattern pieces on the material. The grain of materials was discussed, also stay-stitching, where and why it is used. The girls divided into groups, pinning on their patterns and cutting them out. PERSONALS Home for the weekend with their families were Misses Bonnie Miller, Rosanna Worden, Eleanor Kemp, Bill Worden and Bob Templeman. Misses Rae Butson and Lee Miller spent the weekend with their grandmother Mrs. Dow at Grand Bend. Ricky Taylor entertained a number of friends at his home Friday evening. The occasion was Ricky's eleventh birthday. Mrs. Lloyd Miller visited Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Robert Duncan at Huronview, Clinton. By MISS JEAN COPELAND WOODHAM The Woodham Messengers held a weiner roast at Wheeler's Creek September 13 with 24 .present. A scavenger hunt arid games were played in the field after which everyone enjoyed the wiener roast. The regular meeting of the Messengers was held in the church Sunday with 18 present. President Michelle Robinson read the theme, Margaret Parkinson read the scripture and David Tomlinson led in prayer. Miss Wendy Trainor, London, spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Frank Trainor and family. Mr. & Mrs. Joe Balogh, Wallaceburg, and Miss Mary Thompson, Toronto, visited last weekend with Mrs. Eileen Thompson and her family. Miss Catherine McCarthy, Stratford, spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. John Moser and Larry. Mrs. Mary Bedard, Zurich, visited her mother, Mrs. Catherine Morrissey last week. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Glavin celebrated quietly their 55th wedding anniversary last Thursday and dined with Miss Madeleine and Clare Glavin after Mass with their immediate family. Miss Mary Lynn Dietrich registered for the coming year at the "Pines" high school in Chatham. Vincent Ryan registered at Port Arthur University last week in a special course. Sixteen Huron County Holstein breeders brought out 66 animals at their Black and White show held September 19th at Seaforth Fair, where Judge D, W. Shively, Springfield, very capably placed the ribbons. George Hayden, Gorrie, won both the Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor awards, with Ross Marshall, Kirkton, in second place for both honours. Last year's Grand Champion cow was Senior and Grand Champion again this year for Ross Marshall. She was Merl. Acres Jana, first prize aged cow, and winner of the interbreed Best Udder class. Jana was very deep in the body, and dairylike, with a good udder well attached. Ross Marshall had the winning breeder's herd, the first prize four-year-old cow, and first two-year-old heifer. Edward Bell, Blyth, showed the first prize dry cow; Lynda Walden, Lucknow, the first senior heifer calf, and George Hayden the first prize junior heifer, Holden Farm, Clinton, showed the winning pair, a dam and one of her offspring. The Reserve Grand Championship went to Elston A. Speiran, Brussels, on his first placing in the three-year-old heifer class. This was Castorvue President Polly Ann, a nicely blended cow with good quality udder. She was just completing a 20,000 lb. record. The winning senior yearling heifer was Junior Champion for Elston A. Speiran. She was Duplex Marquis Reta, a stylish, individual, strong on top, and with plenty of dairy character. The Reserve Junior Champion female was Banella Linda Avirla who headed the junior yearling class for George Hayden. Linda was very large for a junior, tall and upstanding, with a long, level quarter. There were five entries in the bull calf class, with the entry of Elston A. Speiran standing first for the Championship. He was International R. J., a nice dairy bull, long in the body and with good depth. George Hayden had Use classifieds! the second place winner and Reserve Champion, pendia Linda Valour, a well balanced calf, stylish and attractive. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Ball spent the weekend in Detroit. Mr, & Mrs. Steve Eberhart attended a wedding Saturday in Windsor. Mrs. Ron Foran spent Monday evening with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator. Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator visited with Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Preszcator of RR 1 Crediton, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Frank Scafe of Clio, Mich., visited with Mrs. Mary Jaques Tuesday. Mrs. Ellis Strahan and Miss Jean Copeland attended the annual meeting of District 10, Ilorticultural Society in Strathroy Saturday. Mr, & Mrs. Mitchell Willis of British Columbia were Thursday supper guests with Mrs. Mary Jaques and also called on several other friends in the village. Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Brine, Misses Myrtle and Pearl Brine and Lloyd Brine were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Willard Schaefer of Kitchener. Mrs. Reg McCurdy and Mrs. Gerald Brintnell held Beeline parties at their homes this past week.
