WEEDS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to
all Property Owners in Huron County
In accordance with the Weed Control Act, R.S.O. 1960,
Sec. 3, 13, 19, and amendments thereto, that unless noxious
weeds growing on their lands are destroyed by July 2, 1969
and throughout the season, the Municipality may enter upon
the said lands and have the weeds destroyed, charging the
costs against the land in taxes, as set out in the Act.
The co-operation of all citizens is solicited.

The UCW of Zion United
Church held their monthly
meeting Thursday evening with
the members of the Crediton
United Church Women as their
guests.

Main Street UCW evening
unit opened the final meeting of
the year with a pot luck supper
Monday. Unit leader Mrs. Wayne
Tuckey welcomed everyone.
Roll call was answered by
naming a favorite flower.
A shower of cards was sent to
Mrs. Claire Hoffman at Victoria
Hospital and Mrs. Doug Parker
at St. Joseph's Hospital.
The devotional was
conducted by Mrs. Peter
Raymond. She was assisted by
Mrs. D. Warren, Mrs. Tom
Arthur and Mrs. Art Hunking.
Mrs. Jack Doerr presented
Mrs. Warren with a gift from the
group.
Mrs. Warren led a Bible quiz.
Mrs. Raymond was the
auctioneer for a sale of left-over
bazaar items.
Caven youth
host service
The Caven Presbyterian
Young People conducted a
worship service of words and
music at the London Rescue
Mission Wednesday evening.
David Foreman lead the
service while Judy Burke and
Philip Moore were the principal
speakers.
Judy's topic was "Is There
Still Hope?" and Philip chose to
speak on "What Man Can Be."
Others who gave Bible
readings were Jo Anne Burke,
Dan Laing and Mike Foreman.
The girls' chorus consisting of
Peggy Pryde, Kathy Simmons,
Cathy Cook, Jo Anne Whilsmith,
Judy Burke and Jo Anne Burke,
sang several songs. Cathy Cook
and Jo Anne Whilsmith supplied
the accompaniment on their
guitars.
accompanied the singing. Mrs.
Ervin Ratz opened the meeting
with a reading. Mrs. Chris
Dinney read the Scripture and
Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner led in
prayer.
Rev. Howard Zurbrigg played
a piano solo, and Mrs. Zurbrigg,
Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner and
Miss Doris Swartz sang. 1%/Irs.
G.E. Wenzel delivered the
message on spiritual life.
Steve Brierley outlined the
work of the London Rescue
Mission, using a film to show the
type of service rendered. At the
close of his message Mrs. Ed
Finkbeiner moved a vote of
thanks to Steve.
Mrs. Zurbrigg, president,
conducted the business. The
Crediton United Church Women
presented two folding tables to
Zion UCW.
Mrs. Harold Fahner and Mrs.
Ed Lamport gave a report of the
United Church Conference they
attended in Windsor. It was
decided to have a congregational
fellowship dinner at noon on
Sunday, June 29.
A letter of congratulations
was sent to Mrs. Sam Lamport
who has been a member of the
UCW for 62 years. A gift was
presented to Mrs. Clayton Sims
in recognition of a membership
term of 50 years.
A farewell gift was presented
to Mrs. Zurbrigg who will be
leaving at the end of June. Mrs.
Gordon Finkbeiner read the
address and Mrs. Ray Morlock
made the presentation,
Hostesses were Mrs. Emerson
Wein, Mrs. Emmery Fahrner and
Mrs. Ervin Ratz.
BIRTHDAY PARTY
In celebration of the birthday
of Suzanne Finkbeiner, a party
was held at the home of Mr. &
Mrs. Don Finkbeiner.

spent the weekend with the

Hoonaard, having recently
returned from Holland where he
visited his aunt and other

Mrs. Inez Dickey entertained
at a birthday celebration for her
grandson, Charlie (Chuck)
Dickey who was six years old. A
birthday cake centred the table
decorated for the occasion.
Sunday visitors with Mr. &
Mrs. Mervin Elston was Mrs.
Margaret Fletcher, Exeter.
Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Blair of
Burnaby, 13,C., flew to Ottawa
last week where Andrew
attended a convention. Friday
they flew back to London.
Friday evening 32 members of
the Blair family gathered at the
home of Mr. & Mrs. Don Blair,
London, for a family reunion.
Saturday they had dinner with
Mr. & Mrs. Bob Blair and family.

The June meeting of the
UCW was held at the home of
Mrs. Wm Fenton. Mrs. Fenton
opened the meeting with a call
to worship.
Roll call was answered by 15
members and three visitors.
Plans were made for a
wedding dinner coming up in
July. Barbecue tickets were
distributed to be sold. It was
decided the congregation would
join in with Sunday School for
their picnic to be held June 29
at Lieury Park.
Mrs. Jack Hodgson, acting for
Group I leader, opened the
meeting with meditation. Mrs.
Fraser Dixon read the scripture
followed by prayer by Mrs.
Hodgson.
Mrs. Fenton gave a paper
entitled "Lead me in the way
everlasting."
Mrs. Howard Fenton gave
two poems. A chapter in Study
Book was given by Mrs. George
Lee.
Lunch was served by Group
II ladies.

passing of their aunt,. Mrs. David
Elston of Edmonton. Miss
Miriam Elston, who, resided, with
her has been placed in a Pursing
home in Edmonton.

Detroit is spending a week's
vacation with her parents, Mr, &
Mrs. Alex McFalls.
A total of $94 was collected
for the Canadian Bible Society.

Community Hall in honor of
Miss Eleanor Wein, bride-elect of
this month.
Mrs. Harold Fahner was
chairman for a program.
Brenda Fahner, Mrs. Robert
Crawford and Mrs. Cliff Brock
gave readings; Mrs. Lawrence
Amos played a piano solo; Miss
Judy Smith gave a number on
the accordion.
Mrs. Lawrence Wein read the
address of presentation to the
guest of honor.
