Ice is out
at the arena
BY J. E. BURT
Things are dropping off fast
here at the Centre. By the time
you get your paper, the ice
should be gone, as we expect to
shut down, April 15 or at such
time as the Ilderton district
hockey league finish their
schedule.
Teen Town held a very nice
dance here last Saturday night
with the "Vibrations' from
Bothwell supplying the
entertainment.
I would like to inform the
misinformed person or persons
from the Lucan Legion that they
will not be running Pee Wee
Baseball in Lucan as it has been
going for the past six summers,
four seasons in the WOAA
league and for the past two years
in the Thames Valley League.
This has been sponsored by
the Lucan District Athletic
Association in conjunction with
the Lucan Recreation
Committee and Arena Board.
It would be appreciated very
much though if the Lucan
Legion would take over
sponsorship of this phase of
baseball. Then the present
sponsors could put more into
the Novice, Bantam and Midget
part of this program. Thanks
fellows.
Legion officers
off to convention
President Jack Bison and
secretary Pat Crudge will
represent the Lucan branch of
the Royal Canadian Legion at
the District "A" convention to
be held in Windsor on Saturday
and Sunday of this week.
Business conducted at these
district conventions plan future
programs of the Legion and
propose legislative changes to
the government.
This particular convention
will plan business for
presentation at the Provincial
Convention in Cornwall, May
25-29.
Lucan's most genial provincial
police officer, Sid Daley will
probably be much in evidence at
this weekend's meeting. He is
trying for a vice-president's post
at the provincial level and is
currently on the campaign trail.
Let's hope that district "A" gets
solidly behind him.
During 1968, the Ontario
Command of the Royal
Canadian Legion attained an
all-time high in membership with
the year-end count reaching
98,953.
Long recognized as Canada's
largest service club, the 1969
Ontario membership is expected
to top the 100,000 mark. The
target for all of Canada is
310,000.
Medway High School Band
won the Martin. Boundy Trophy
in the London Kiwanis Music
Festival at Centennial Hall,
They beat Lucan 96.5 to 96
while Wheable had 95. The
marks were high, adjudicators
Hunsberger and David. Cerone
explained, because of the calibre
of all the bands. As senior bands,
they were playing in what could
almost be described as a
symphonic class.
Medway was complimented
for their "much more direct
approach . ." with the result
that their lines flowed into one
another.
Two of the instrumentalists
were Lucan children, Jane
Hodgson and Mike Culbert.
