The Exeter Legion. bantams
find themselves in a familiar
position in the Ontario Minor
Hockey Association Bantam "B"
finals.
After losing the first two
games of the provincial
best-of-five final against South.
Shore, the locals bounced back
in typical fashion to take a 7-6
win on Exeter ice, Sunday
afternoon.
Friday afternoon at Keswick,
the Exeter club stayed in
contention for all but four
minutes of the game as they
bowed 8-6 to South Shore.
The fourth+ game of the
exciting series will be played at
Keswick tomorrow night, Friday
at 8 o'clock with a fifth game, if
necessary set for the Exeter
Arena, Sunday afternoon at two
o'clock,
STRONG FINISH
Sunday's game at the Exeter
Arena was undoubtedly the best
minor contest played here in
many a year.
A strong four goal attack in
the third period allowed the
Legion sponsored team to post a
7-6 win and keep their
championship hopes alive.
The final outcome was in
doubt throughout with never
more than two goals separating
the two clubs.
The first period ended with
the visitors from the Lake
Simcoe area in front 2.1, The
game was only a little more than
a minute old when Mark Trivitt
scored for South Shore,
Four minutes later, the
handful of Exeter fans in
attendance had their first chance
to cheer. Robbie Lindenfield
took a pass from Randy
Preszcator to knot the score at
1-1.
Before the first period came
to a close, Steve Culbert restored
the one goal lead for the visitors.
In the early moments of the
second, Lindenfield found the
scoring range for the second
time to even the count at 2-2
with Preszcator again assisting.
The South Shore club then
took over in the scoring
department with Robbie Lockie
and Trivitt firing successful
shots.
At 13.45, Peter Gill took a
pass from Randy Preszcator and
popped the puck into the South
Shore net to put the Exeter boys
back within a goal of the
visitors.
Near the four minute mark of
the third period, captain Randy
Preszcator triggered his first goal
of the day with Peter Gill and
Robbie Lindenfield assisting to
even the score at 4-4.
Pete Glover put the Exeter
club in front for the first time at

second session was completed.
Ken Fraser was on the firing
end of both Crediton scores in
the first period with Terry
Bourne assisting twice and
Chapman adding a single assist.
Late in the first frame, Jim
Bell put the Bulldogs on the
score sheet for the first time and
early in the middle session Jack
Johnston scored again to even
the score at 2-2.
The Tigers wasted little time
in getting out in front again as
they roared back with three
straight goals before the 13
minute mark was reached.
Chapman notched the first on
a play originated by Ken Fraser
and Paul Young tipped in a pass
from Bill Chipchase only a
minute apart to put the Tigers
back in front 4-2.
Later in the period, Terry
Bourne blinked the red light
behind the Kincardine cage and
Keith Davidson replied for the
home club to keep the Tigers
two goals up as the second
period came to a close.
Doug Johnston and Eric
McLeod were able to beat Tom
Glavin in the Crediton nets in
the first half of the third period
to set the stage for Chapman's
game winning score.

Go
bantams
go
Despite the appearance of real summery weather
this week the hockey season locally could still be with
us for a week or more.
The last couple of weeks have been exciting ones
for district fans who have been following as many as
four teams at one time, One by one they are being
eliminated, but we still have two clubs with good
chances of championships,
Closest to home, the Exeter Legion bantams are
in the thick of the battle for the Ontario Minor Hockey
Association Bantam "B" crown.
This battling hockey club handled by Gary
Middleton and Bill Gilfillan won the Shamrock bantam
championship and showed tremendous
come-from-behind abilities in downing Blenheim and
Delhi in preliminary rounds on the way to the OMHA
finals.
The local youngsters are currently in the same
position they have been in for most of the playoffs, that
of being backed against the wall and need to win every
game remaining.
They trail a big and strong team from South
Shore two games-to-one and travel to the Lake Simcoe
area Friday night for the fourth game of the series at the
Keswick arena.
This club has been playing an excellent brand of
hockey all year but has been unable to gather much fan
supper* along the playoff trail.
Lack of spectators during the past couple of
weeks had been blamed on the fact three other teams
were still in the running for championships and were
attracting the followings.
This was certainly not the reason Sunday
afternoon at the Exeter arena when almost a half of the
400 fans were supporting the visitors from South Shore.
It was the only game being played in the area.
When a goal was scored it was very difficult to
determine which team was successful by the volume of
the cheers.
We would hope a goodly number of fans
accompany the team to Keswick for the fourth game on
Friday and a full house is on hand for the fifth and
deciding game at the Exeter arena, Sunday afternoon at
two o'clock.
Arrangements are being made for a bus to take
the players and some parents and additional fans to the
game in Keswick Friday. The bus is expected to leave
the arena about 3:30 in the afternoon.
The last statement regarding Sunday's game may
seem a little optimistic considering the Legion bantams
are trailing in the series, but we feel they have the
capabilities to do the trick.
Regardless of the outcome of the provincial
bantam final, it has been a good year, not only for the
local youngsters but all district hockey teams.
The Crediton Tigers are still in the running and
have a good shot at the WOAA Intermediate "C" title in
their first try at the higher competition.
They lead the Kincardine Bulldogs in the "C"
final and could wrap up the championship this week. If
successful, it is possible they could meet the Zurich
Flyers in a clash for the grand championship.
While the Zurich club is currently one
game down to Kurtzville in the "D" final, a
Crediton-Zurich series would be a natural one and
would draw good crowds.
The odd part of such a series would be the fact,
Earl Wagner is the non-playing coach of the Crediton
club and plays for Zurich. Each team has a sprinkling of
players from this immediate area to create lots of
interest.
Good Year For Hawks
The first venture in Junior "C" ranks in the
Ontario Hockey Association by the Exeter Hawks was
also very successful. Although eliminated by the New
Hamburg Hahns, the Hawks produced a pleasing brand
of hockey throughout the year and certainly were not
outclassed in higher comp any.
Next year should be a good one for the Hawks
with a goodly percentage of this year's club ready to
return to action along with a few overage midgets. The
three or four midgets that did see junior action in the
latter part of the season showed they will be right at
home in junior play in the 1969-70 season.
Jets Thank Fans
We received a call from Don Urbshott of the
Lucan-Ilderton Jets early this week asking us to pass on
their thanks to the area hockey fans for their support at
the Jets home games played at the Centralia arena.
The management of the L-I club is very pleased
with the good crowds that attended their playoff games
against Elmira and Durham and expect to use the Huron
Park ice facilities again next year.

Would like to extend its appreciation to the
following firms for their support during the

One game down in final
BANTAMS IN OMHA FINAL The Exeter Legion Bantams are
currently participating in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association
finals. The fourth game is being played in Keswick Friday at 8

The Crediton Tigers moved a
step closer to the Western
Ontario Athletic Association
Intermediate "C" hockey
championship with a 6.5 win
over the Kincardine Bulldogs in
Kincardine, Sunday afternoon.
The close win gave the Tigers
a three-games-to-two edge in the
best-of-seven series. The sixth
game was played last night,
Wednesday at Centralia. If a
seventh game is necessary, it will
be played back in Kincardine,
Sunday afternoon.
The winner of the
Crediton-Kincardine series will
meet the league's "D" champ,
either Zurich or Kurtzville.
Kurtzville is presently leading
the final set for the "D" title
one game to none on the
strength of a 6-5 win, Monday
night.
ROUGH BATTLE
The penalty time keepers
were the busiest persons in the
Kincardine rink Sunday as the

dished out including three
