Carolyn, daughter of Mr..and Mrs, Bruce Perry, Exeter, will receive $15 for her winning effort, It portrayed a lady bug shunning a tobacco plant. Carolyn s slogan was "Bugs are smart enough to leave it alone, Are you?" The money will go into SHDHS girl best actress An enthusiastic group of young actors and actresses from SHDHS gathered around a deserving young performer in their number, Sandra. O'Rourke, Zurich, who walked off with the best actress award at the Huron-Perth district collegiate drama festival Saturday in Stratford. All members of the cast of "Sorry, Wrong Number" in which Miss O'Rourke took the part of Mrs. Stevenson were delighted with the award. "We were all so happy for Sandra," said Pauline Greb, Dashwood, another participant in the SHDHS offering. Adjudicator Prof. G. E. Buckley called Miss O'Rourke a talented performer. In fact, Prof. Buckley was well pleased with the quality of all the plays and said several of the players could have a future in the theatre. Other members of the SHDHS cast were Dianne Zehr, Mary Murley, Doris Ferguson, Bill Ratz, Burton Moon and David Mohr. The winning play was Stratford's Northwestern's production of "The Fool's Errand." Senior citizens to host guests The Exeter Senior Citizens held their monthly gathering in the Legion Hall, April 1. Mrs. Russell Schroeder was emcee and Mrs. Sorenson the pianist. President Joseph White and members expressed their • sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Ford, on their recent bereavement. Entertainment was provided by. the following artists: Darrell Wyatt, Glen Hodgins, Ron Amerongen, Mrs. Ray Cann, Linda Wurm, John Wurm, Vincent Glaab, Woodham Quartet and Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Johnston. Refreshments was served by the Main Street United Church ladies. St. Marys Senior Citizens will be guests at our next gathering in May. Clinton youth wins UN trip Bill Boussey, 16, a Grade 11 student at Central Huron Secondary School, Clinton, topped a field of nine contestants at Clinton Friday in the 20th annual I.O.O.F. United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth. Mr. BoUssey will be visiting New York as one of more than 1000 student observers of the United Nations from Canada and U.S.A. This project is sponsored in its entirety by the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodges. Miss Margaret Elligson, Seaforth Secondary School was chosen as the alternate delegate. Other contestants presented with certificates included Miss Kathy Cann, Exeter, and Paul Charrette, Dashwood, of SHDHS. Judges were Rev. Donald Stuart, Brucefield; John Siertsema, Bayfield; Edward Dearing, Staffa. Committee in charge were: John Broadfoot, D.D.G.M. Brucefield; Gerald McFalls, P.D.D,G.M. Exeter; and Mrs. C.W. Local student receives award for .best poster Carolyn's saving account, the young artist told the T-A Wednesday. Her teacher is Mrs. Delmar Miller, Dashwood. The poster competition > like the anti-smoking campaign itself, was organized jointly by the Public Health Service of the County, the Canadian Cancer Society (Huron County Unit) and the Huron Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Association. It was open to all Huron County public and separate school children. There were 787 entries in the competition, 160 from Grades 1.4 and 627 from Grades 5-8. Entries were assessed by a panel of judges for their idea content and design. In each section, $15 will be awarded to the winners and $5 to the runners-up.
