The big plus factor for the
Exeter Legion bantams this year
has been their ability to win the
hockey games that count. On
Wednesday night at the Exeter
arena, the local youngsters edged
Delhi 4-3 hi the third and
deciding game of the Ontario
Minor Hockey Association
Bantam "B" semi-final.
The Legion sponsored club
handled by Gary Middleton and
Bill Within is now in the
all-Ontario final and are meeting
South Shore in a best-of-five
series for the provincial
championship.
In the first game on Exeter
ice, Sunday afternoon, the
visitors broke a close game wide
open with five consecutive goals
in the third period to post a 9-4
win.
The second game is being
played Good Friday afternoon
in Keswick at two o'clock with
the third contest back at the
Exeter arena, Sunday afternoon,
also at two o'clock.
GOALS EARLY
In the first game of the final
series, Sunday at the local arena
both clubs started out to show
the fans they were going to give
them plenty of action.
The visiting South Shore
jumped into a quick lead with
goals from Robbie Lockie and
Perry Lang before seven minutes
had elapsed in the first period.
High flying Randy Preszcator
put the Exeter club on the
scoreboard for the first time at
10.37 as he completed a
periods and doubled their period
production in the closing session
to bring their grand scoring total
to eight.
Barry Baynham and Jim
Hayter were the Exeter
marksmen in the first period
while Hayter and Scott Burton
scored in the middle period.
In the third stanza, Burton
and Baynham each scored again
to join Hayter in the two-goal
class for the night while the
other Hawk goals were fired by
Randy Parsons and Bill
Fairbairn.
A total of 15 penalties were
handed out by referee Bruce
McFadden of London with eight
going to the Hawks. McFadden
is a regular OHA JuniOr "A" and
Senior "A" official.

Graham and Graham

In the final game of the year,
Lloyd Moore scored five times
to lead the Bank Boys to their
easy victory. A couple of hat
trick performances were turned
in by Dick Coulter and Vic Neil.
Aiding the winning cause
with a pair of successful shots
each were Bob Jones and Ron

successful scoring play with
Peter Kleinstiver.
Less than a minute later,
Robbie Lindenfield whipped in a
low drive from about ten feet in
front of the South Shore cage to
tie the score at 2.2, Pete Glover
gained an assist on the second
Exeter scoring play,
The visitors from the Lake
Shore area regained their two
goal lead at 4-2 before the first
period came to a close. Jim
Luscaumb was on the firing end
of both scores.
Both goalies came up with
great stops in the second period
and the only goal was fired by
Pete Glover of Exeter at 6.16 to
reduce his club's deficit to a
single goal at 4-3.
The third period was only
three minutes old when Randy
Preszcator picked the puck up at
centre ice and eluded all South
Shore defenders to go in and
score the nicest goal of the
afternoon to put the clubs on
even terms at 4-4.
Only a minute later, Perry
Lang scored what proved to be
the winner on an unassisted
effort. Before the game ended,
Robbie Lockie had scored twice
and Stan Gilbert and Dan
Chobotiuk added single goals.
GOOD GOALING
In the deciding 4-3 Exeter
semi-final win over Delhi, Exeter
goalie Bill Inch turned in a
spectacular performance to keep
his club in the game, especially
in the second and third periods
contention until the last ten
minutes of the game.
The Hahns held a 4.3 edge at
the end of two periods of play,
but the Hawks tied the score
temporarily early in the third on
a goal fired by Scott Burton.
Bob Goring scored the only
goal of the initial period for the
Hawks while Randy Roth and
Dave Walkom were tallying for
the Hahns.
In the second Scott Burton
and Bill Fairbairn were the
successful Exeter sharpshooters ;
Gary Stockie and Roth were
scoring for New Hamburg. After
Burton fired the tying marker,
Bob Knack, Tom Pearson and
Halkom scored to assure the
New Hamburg victory.

The inability to win a hockey
game in New Hamburg cost the
Exeter Hawks a chance for the
Ontario Hockey Association
Junior "C" championship.
The Hawks were able to win
all three games of the
best-of-seven series played in
Exeter but were unable to put
up much of a show in the
Waterloo County town, losing to
the Hahns by a 7-0 count in the
deciding game, Saturday night.
The Exeter losing streak in
New Hamburg has now reached
eight consecutive games. Two
years ago in a similar series, the
Hawks were unable to win away
from home.
On the other side of the
ledger, the Hahns have had
similar luck on Exeter ice, failing
to win in two years, but in each
case they have had the deciding
game of the series slated for
their arena.
After losing in New Hamburg
by a 7-4 count Wednesday to fall
behind 3-2 in games, the Hawks
battled back with a thrilling 8-1
win on Exeter ice Friday to
force the seventh and deciding
contest in New Hamburg,
Saturday.
In the seventh game, the
Hawks suffered one of their
worst losses of the year as they
failed to put the puck into the
New Hamburg net all evening.
The last two games of the
series drew the largest crowds of
the season for both clubs. A
crowd of 1,150 was on hand in
Exeter, Friday night and slightly
more than 1,600 jammed the
New Hamburg rink the next
night.
IN HIGH GEAR
The Hawks had their scoring
machine in high gear Friday
night as they evened the series at
three games apiece with a
convincing 8-1 victory.
The locals scored two goals in
each of the first and second
