He termed the coming of the
county board the biggest change
in .education since Eggerton
Ryerson, .and pointed out it
would take men with experience
to handle the change.
The Usborne farmer said he
bad many years' experience in
various -capacities and had
always tried to enlighten himself
as i.e., changes in education by
reading and attending
conferences.
"We're entering a big
system," he explained,. adding he
would endeavour to bring 'the
best in education and facilities
to young people,
• "But I won't forget that you
are the men who pay the taxes,"
he concluded. "That's one thing
we can't forget."
ATTACKS COMMITTEE
Stewart explained there
would be a "tremendous task"
during the first year of the new
county board, - predicting it
would "level off" after that.
A .father of four school
children, he said he felt it was
desirable for a trustee to have
children in school. "It helps
keep him abreast of what is
going on," he explained.
He also said a trustee should
have a good education — a
university degree or equivalent —
to deal with the principals and
staff. The Usborne man also said
the trustee should be a young
person if possible.
Stewart told the men in
attendance he was ashamed to
have been a member of the
Huron Interim Committee. He
said there was very poor
leadership given. the committee
and no one seemed to know
where they were going.
"We were asked to do a job
and it hasn't been done," he
said, adding he felt badly that he
was a part of it.
The other nominee, Clarence
McDonald was not present for
the brief period of speeches.
Also nominated was Bev
Parsons, presently chairman of
the Usborne board. He did not
qualify.
Ivan Hearn was acclaimed

Lions inspect
water station
Instead of "down to
London" it's "up". So the
Exeter Lions Club learned at
their recent meeting. In fact
water must be pumped some
350 feet up to the reservoir at
Arva, on its way to supply
London with pure, fresh water.
The Lions Club, together
with their wives, and several
guests toured the Ontario Water
Resources Commission's
showplace of Canada, the Grand
Bend location of the Lake
Huron Water Supply System.
A successful canvass for the
Canadian National Institute for
the Blind was recently carried
out in the area by the Lions.
Larry Snider, chairman of the
Sight Conservation Committee,
reported that returns have
teethed $1445.00, Further
donations can still be made
directly to him,
The next meeting of the
Lions will see Several neW
members inducted into the club,
Lion president John Grose
informed the gathering.,
Library services
large district
One of the major problems
which faces Huron County
Library Board is the large area to
be serviced with the funds
available, Frank McFadden,
Bayfield, the chairman,
informed Huron County Council
meeting in Goderich last week.
Ile said the Board is
endeavouring to allocate funds
to the best advantage under the
circumstances,
Salary adjustments have been
made for the office staff. A
detailed study of policy
respecting office personnel,
branch personnel and general
administration, has been agreed
on by the Board, he stated.
Discussions have ensued with
certain branches regarding
problems occurring in their
particular areas. Mr. McFadden
stated that the Board appreciates
suggestions from local personnel.
Miss Carolyn Croke, Huron
County Librarian, told Council
that she had put a lot of pressure
on the provincial library' service
in connection with securing
