NORMAN LONG The Kippen United Church Women held their Thanksgiving meeting October 8. Mrs. Tom Reid was in charge of the worship period. The theme "Gratitude is the language of Grace" was demonstrated during the worship period. Mrs, Harold. Jones continued the theme of their meeting with two poems. Mrs. R. Elgie called for committee reports and roll call was answered by giving an old fashioned remedy. Mrs. Bert Faber and Mrs. Donald Stuart were appointed to bring back reports from the regional meeting to be held in Hensall United Church, October 23. Mrs., John Sinclair introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Marlene Roberton, Huron County Health nurse. Mrs, Roberton gave a detailed account of the many services available to the public. Mrs. Elgie thanked Mrs. Roberton and Mrs. Harold Jones thanked all those who had taken part in the meeting, Hostesses Mrs. A McMurtrie and Mrs. A. Moffat conducted a contest before lunch which concluded the evening. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. J. H. Gibson and family, Wroxeter and Mr. & Mrs. J. D. Barnard, Ailsa Craig, were ,Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Mellis. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Bell and family spent Sunday with the latter's brother and family, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Weir of Sebringville. The occasion was a birthday party for Kathy Bell who was 11 years of age. Mrs. Edgar McBride, Mrs. Robert Dalrymple, Bonnie and Betty, Brucefield, spent Thanksgiving weekend with the former's daughter, Sharon, Sault Ste. Marie. Mrs. Bert Thomson was the winner of an electric carving knife and case in a draw sponsored by Traquair's Hardware, Exeter. Mrs. E. McBride entertained relatives to a miscellaneous shower recently in honor of her neice, Karen Beattie, bride-elect of Wingham. Mrs. Lovie showed a film on what the United Church is doing for the Canadian Indian in Northern Manitoba. Mrs. Webb read several poems. Mrs. Alex Hamilton spoke oh the New Adult Study book that is used for the Adult Class each Sunday morning and urged that more members should attend this study. Mrs. WM. Blewett presided for the business. The ladies decided to have a Christmas Tea and Bake Sale November 27. This year, the group will send Christmas boxes to the Irwins, Paul Webb, and Doreen Baker.
