Sixth meeting of the Staffa
Stitehers 4-H Homemaking club
on Needlecraft was held at the
home of Mrs. Bert Daynard
recently.
Mrs. Spencer Jeffery showed
the uses of the fly and Roman
stitches. There was a brief
discussion on the exhibit the
girls are planning for
Achievement Day entitled
"Traditions In Embroidery".
Several members were able to
bring old embroidered family
treasures for it.
Sandra Gray demonstrated
the frequently used crewel
stitch. Mrs. Daynard explained
the different methods used to
transfer a pattern to the
material.

Unit 2 of the UCW met for
their regular meeting Monday
with Mrs. Harry Hoy in charge.
Mrs. Hoy reviewed a chapter
from "Japanese Profiles", and
followed it with excerpts from
the United Church Observer on
Dr. McClure, the new
Moderator.
Arrangements were made for
the South. Regional meeting of
UCW of Huron Perth Presbytery
to be held in Hensall United
Church October 23.
Mrs. P.L. McNaughton based
her worship on the parable of
the talents. Mrs. Hoy conducted
a Bible quiz.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Robert Brodie and her
committee.
Mission nurse
Esther Steckle, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Daniel Steckle of
Zurich, began a one-year term of
voluntary service with the
Mennonite Board of Missions,
Elkhart, Ind. She is serving as a
licensed practical nurse at St.
Francis Hospital, Carlsbad, N.
Mex. Miss Steckle is a member
of the Zurich Mennonite Church
and a 1965 graduate of Central
Huron Secondary School,
Clinton. She attended Ontario
Mennonite Bible Institute,
Kitchener, for three years and
took a registered nursing
assistant course in Wingham for
one year. Prior to her term of
service, she was employed by
Wingham and District Hospital.
Elimville and Staffa Women's
Institutes were special guests of
Hensall WI at the October
meeting Wednesday with the
theme "Agriculture and
Canadian Industries".
Vice-president Mrs. Elizabeth
Riley welcomed the members
and guests. Roll call was
answered by naming "A
Canadian manufactured article
used in the home".
Fifteen dollars was donated
to the C.N.I.B.
Mrs. Harry Horton gave
highlights of the A.C.W.W. held
at Lansing, Michigan, which she
attended as a delegate. She also
showed colored slides.
Mrs. James McAllister
reported on the bazaar held at
Huronview Wednesday. Mrs.
Wilbert Dilling reported for the
Huron County Rally of Women's
Institutes held at Cranbrook
recently.
The program was chaired by
Mrs. Dilling. A sing-song was
directed by Miss Greta Lammie
and the motto prepared by Mrs.
Harry Caldwell, "Farming is like
a wheelbarrow; it stands still
unless you push it" was read by
Mrs. Dilling.
