Spring shivaree on Lucan couple On October 6, 1928, at St. George's Anglican Church, the Rev. Arthur Shore united in marriage Edna Roberts, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roberts, and Harvey Hodgins, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hodgins. The bride's brother, Hilton Roberts and the groom's sister, Edythe (Mrs. Jack Murdy) now both of Lucan, were attendants. The couple spent their married life at RR 1 Lucan, on the Coursey Line. They have three children, Mrs. Bruce Morley of Lieury, Roscoe Hodgins of St. Thomas and Beverly Hodgins, at home. There are four grandchildren. Last Saturday night on the eve of their fortieth anniversary, 17 of their relatives and friends sprang a shivaree on them. After lunch provided by the invaders, Mr. and Mrs. Hodgins showed pictures of their recent trip to B.C. On Sunday evening their three children sponsored a dinner at the Dufferin Hotel, Centralia, for 36 members of their family. Explorers go on expedition LUCAN Lucan-Clandeboye Explorers held an Expedition at the Lucan United Church reticently with 32 Explorers and four leaders present. The business was led by Mrs. William Froats who explained details of the Explorer uniform. The girls were asked to enquire about the work and aims of UNICEF and report their findings at the next Expedition. Members were divided into three groups alternating every 20 minutes between music, under the leadership of Mrs. Ross MeRobert,s; games, Mrs. Keith Kraul; and discussion on the Explorer's Emblem, with Mit, Don °Neil. There was a collection of books on the Wonders of Nature on display. The girls were asked to bring yarn and pieces of flannelette to the next Expedition for making into quilts for the needy, In order to gain a diploma from the College a student must successfully complete this project. The aim of the project is to determine whether a course can be successful without a college farm. The senior year students will be divided into groups of six by the area of farm study they are interested in. Accompanied by a staff tutor the boys will visit the farms to study it in depth. Real farm situations will be created to expose them to problems which can be resolved by farm and classroom study. The area farmer will be in the role of a part-time instructor for the half dozen students that visit his farm. The students will have complete access to all business information pertaining to the farm operation. While the emphasis will be on farm business management, the boys will look at the complete farm business. Other phases that will be explored are soils, fertility, crop progress, livestock, farm machinery and farm credit. This project which is the first of its kind in Canada will take priority over all other classes or subjects. A passing grade is necessary to gain a diploma. The six area farmers and their wives met the students at a get-acquainted dinner at the Centralia College last Tuesday and Thursday the boys made their first trip to the farms. District farmers co-operating in this new venture are Ralph Weber, Howard Johns, Elmer Powe, Edwin Miller, Maurice Love and Ross Marshall. Centralia Farmers Supply Ltd.
