Couple hurt
in accident
Last Friday morning Mr. and
Mrs. Cecil Hodgins of Alice St.,
Lucan were on their way to
London via Highbury Avenue at
Concession 7, London Township,
(Ballymote).
A truck and car, side by side,
had stopped at the stop sign.
The latter pulled out in front of
the Hodgins' car and sent it off
the road into a hydro pole, badly
damaging the car.
Mr. Hodgins escaped with an
injured nose but Mrs. Hodgins'
head went through the windshield,
inflicting some deep lacerations.
She also lost three upper teeth
and injured her lower teeth.
' At time of writing she is still
a patient in St. Joseph's Hos-
pital.
Junior Farmers
enjoy field day
Junior Farmers from Middle-
sex, Lambton Kent, Essex and
Elgin held their Zone Field Day
at Ridgetown last Saturday. •
Bonnie Tweddle, Jim Barker
and Alfred Ovens from the Lucan
branch were on the Middlesex
team,
Baseball, volleyball, basket-
ball and track and field events
formed the day's program.
When points were compiled,
Lambton was first and Middle-
sex was a Close second.
Winners of each event will
now compete for provincial hon-
ors at Guelph some time in
August.
Dr. and Mrs. S. J. Morrison
of Detroit brought Mrs. Ralph
Rummell home after a five day
visit with them„ They left Cath-
erine and Marilyn to spend two
week's vacation in Lucan.
Last Wednesday, 13 members
of the Lucan Junior Farmers, who
played baseball in the Middlesex
Junior Farmers' League at Glen-
coe were badly beaten-16 to 1.
Ori Sunday, 23 descendants of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Ward Hod-
gins held their family picnic at
the home of Emerson Hodgins of
London. Guests were present
from Guelph, St. Marys and
Clandeboye. Mr. and Mrs. Mur-
ray Hodgins were present from
Lucan.
Karen Hodgson, 7 year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Hodgson of Ailsa Craig is holi-
daying with her grandmother,
Mrs. Eldon Hodgson of Alice St.
Mrs. Alice Hodgins and Mrs.
Annie Fairless were Thursday
guests of Mrs. T. A. .Hodgins
and called on other Lucan friends.
Owing to so many members
being on vacation there was no
Weight Watchers' meeting last
week.
Mrs. Roscoe Hodgins and
family of St. Thomas were week-
end guests of Dave Ashworth.
Last Sunday Mrs. Sheridan
Revington held a family dinner on
her lawn for 16 in honor of her
grandson. It was Johnnie Camp-
bell's ninth birthday.
Miss Flo Chown has returned
to St. Thomas after spending a
few days with her sister, Miss
Reta Chown.
Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Stutt
and family, Mrs. Mary Squire
and Mary Jane spent Sunday at
Niagara Falls.
Mrs. Wm Aylestock returned
to Lucan two weeks ago to pre-
pare for selling her home on
William St. Her son, Frank of
Montreal, has returned to Mon-
treal after ten days with his
mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tindall and
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Abbott spent
Sunday in Wiarton with Mr. and
Mrs. Allan Tindall, bringing
home Nancy Tindall and Carol.
Ann Abbott who had been holi-
daying in Wiarton for the past
week.
Mrs. Ron Crozier and her
sister-im-law, Mrs. Mary E.
Vance of Byron spent three days
last week in Ida, Ontario, where
they attended the funeral of the
latter's father, Bruce Sharp of
The Pines, Ida.
Sandy and Danny Leckie of
Alice St., spent two days last
week in Sarnia with their father,
Donald Leckie.
Mrs. Chris Fischer of George
St,, spent last weekend in Lon-
don with her family.

and family of Glencoe.

Each year descendants of Mrs.
Frank Hardy and the late Mr.
Hardy have held their family pic-
nic on the Sunday nearest to
July 4 (Mrs. Hardy's birthday).
This year the picnic had to be
postponed, owing to the sudden
illness of Mrs. Hardy.
Mrs. D. Ryder
dies in hospital
Mrs. Dan Ryder, 79, 60 Grand
Avenue, London, formerly of Bid-
dulph township, passed away sud-
denly Tuesday, July 2 in Victoria
Hospital, London.
The body lay at -rest in the
C. Haskett and Son Funeral Home,
Lucan, where prayers were said
Wednesday evening by the Cath-
olic Women's League and on
Thursday evening by Rev. Father •
F. J. Bricklin.
On Friday requiem high mass
was sung at 10:30 a.m, in St.
Patrick's Church, Biddulph, by
Father Bricklin. Interment was
in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
