Fun and Film night concluded
the regular meetings of Elim-
ville-Thames Road CGIT re-
cently at Elimville.
The •evening commenced with
a lively ball game after which
24 members and three leaders
enjoyed a barbecue supper on the
church lawn.
Plans were discussed for the
Vacation Bible School to be con-
ducted at Ellmville Church by the
CGIT July 2 to 6.
Seeking opinions
on reduced slate
Mayor Jack Delbridge failed
to get much immediate support
Monday when he asked council
members to consider the pos-
sibility of reducing the number
of councillors from six to four.
He made the suggestion that
the plan be considered by coun-
cil, noting he had recently visited
Leamington and found they man-
aged a town three times the size
of Exeter with four councillors,
a reeve, deputy-reeve and mayor.
"I'm not trying to kick anyone
out," he emphasized, adding that
it was a consideration in view of
the difficulty in getting people to
stand for council posts.
Reeve Derry Boyle suggested
this would make it more difficult
as members of council would
have more work with fewer mem-•
bers.
tti don't see any merit," he
said, noting there wouldn't be
any great saving in money.
Ross Taylor thought it would
create more work for committee
chairmen and members of council
and suggested there would be a
small representation if two mem-
bers of a reduced council hap-
pened to be absent.
"I think most towns are run
With only four councillors," Joe
Wooden stated.
The discussion ended when
Mayor Delbridge asked members
to consider such a change and he
also said he hoped the public
would make their opinions known
to council members on the sug-
gestion.
