The annual CGIT & Explorers
mother and daughter banquet was
held May 15 in Grand Bend
United Church Sunday school-
room. President, Martha Kneale
presided for the evening.
Toast to Mothers was given
by Mary Blewett with response
by Mrs. Wm. Blewett, Mrs. Ed
Gill conducted the White Cord
and graduation ceremony Eliza-
beth Kennedy and Jamie Kneale
received their White Cord and
Jean Jennison, her graduation
pin.
Elizabeth Kennedy introduced
the guest speaker - Miss Laur-
etta Siegner of Exeter, who spoke
on Sports. Jean Jennison thanked
Miss Siegner and presented her
with a gift.
_Debbie Crown thanked the TIC W
for the banquet. The CGIT en-
tertained with a sports wear
fashion show.
The evening was brought to a
close by singing Explorers Hymn
- This is My Father's World.
SHOWS PAPER FLOWERS.
The Grand Bend Women's In-
stitute met Thursday evening in
the town hall. Mrs. Ed Gill,
horticulture convener, was in
charge. She introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. T. MacMillan of
Exeter who demonstrated making
large crepe paper flowers. Mrs.
Alex Hamilton thanked Mrs. Mac-
Millan and Mrs. Gill presented
her with a beautiful plant.
Roll Call was name your birth-
day, flower and birthstone. Motto
was "The love of the land lies
deep in the heart of man." The
members brought plants and
bulbs and exchanged them.
Mrs. Nola Taylor president,
presided for the business. Final
plans were made for the District
Annual on May 23 at Grand Bend
DC. A committee was named to
plant flowers at the entrance to
the cemetery.
All members of executive are
to meet at Mrs. Nola Taylor's
home on Monday, May 27 to make
out programs for 1968-69 meet-
ings.
Lunch was served by Mrs. Ed
Turnbull and mrs. Allan Parker.
PLAN COFFEE HOUR
The May Meeting of St. John's-
by-the-Lake ACW was held in
the parish hall with Mrs. Lloyd
Baker presiding. A good turnout
of members was present and
new ones welcomed. The meet-
ing opened with Rev. E. Insley
at the piano. Mrs. Thos. Hop-
croft gave a reading entitled
"Too Busy" which is most ap-
propriate in the business of liv-
ing today.
Items were on display that are
being made for the boutique,
crafts and bake sale to be held
July 13. The theme will be rather
like Expo, "Woman and her
World."
The rector suggested that a
coffee hour be held after the
morning service during the sum-
mer months to meet summer
visitors and welcome them to
the community. There was a
tentative discussion about plans
for either a barbecue or ham
supper in August.
